Cappadocia, cave rooms, Olympos, tree house!

Married to the Sea

... talking a bit about Turkey and what we had seen and experienced since arriving. It was so large and so interesting. And it was great to talk aobut how amazingly rich its short history as a republic was. The thing most stunning about Turkish history is that before Attaturk its language was written in Arabic like script. More or less overnight Attaturk came to power and "reformed" the society, abadoning the old script for a more modern and Westernized version, with only a few ...

ROMAN RUINS AND THE Blue, Blue SEA

... behind us. We head back to the main hotel and park entrance area. There are ruins on the other side of the river. This is a tomb area, I guess for the others. There was a building built up the side of the hill for tombs, tombs built into the side of the hill and several sarcophaguses. We noticed on the tombs built into the hill each one has a sliding stone block about 2' x 2'. The block has a square cut into it to slide it back and forth along a trough. Down a bit further ...

Asher - Drive to Chirali

The ancient people used to think that a dragon had caused the fires, because they did not know what caused them. Even today, people don't know exactly what causes them. Methane gas escapes from underground, hits the air, and for some reason starts burning. After another dark, quiete mile back with flashlights, we got in the car and left for the hotel.

Olympos and the flaming Chimaera

It was a bit of a shame to skip off the boat a day early but the weather wasn't great for swimming and the bottom line was we had to move on - a couple more stops on Mystery's itinerary had to be made no matter how little time we had left. That we probably saved quite a few brain cells was a small bonus. The first of these scheduled stops would be Olympos ...
