... We picked out a cute little restaurant in a square just off the busiest roads. There we had another fabulous meal. Greek salad, amazing grilled mushrooms (no idea what kind, but they looked like fans), and a house “special” – feta wrapped in bacon and eggplant. Seriously, that was the best thing we’ve eaten here. We were sad to find out that this wasn’t a traditional Greek dish as one of the ladies at the shop ...
... book. We way over ordered. Very good – Greek Salad, stuffed peppers and tomatoes, followed by lamb and rice. Here we made a vow to only order two things at a time – a salad and one entrée. If we needed more food, we could always order more. Even with two items, they always bring you “on the house” fruit at the end of the meal which is usually a plate full of grapes or melons, peaches, etc. No need for good food to go to waste!

... We spent a few extra euro in Heraklion and this hotel room did not disappoint! Very cute and not one, but TWO air conditioners! We’re gonna sleep good tonight.
We purchased a combination ticket to visit the Heraklion Archeological Museum and the Knossos Palace. The hotel is well situated for this, as the Museum is on the same block, and Knossos could be visited by bus which could be caught on the same block. ...
Antonia kindly took us to the local markets this morning. The vegetables are superb.. I know our vision is slightly clouded by excitement.. but they definitely are very good quality as we get to taste now & then. You are so right Manuela...self catering is going to be a struggle to slip back into! There are 2 microclimates here for growing fresh produce.. the plateau in the mountains & the low areas near the coastline....all year ...
