Riga-mortis ...
... to further dehumanize an opposed people. Depressing stuff. And makes one so truly grateful for our own blessed state.
Maskachka is one of the most crime-filled and poorest neighborhoods in Riga, and thus for obvious reasons, one of the less popular areas for living in the capital. The name "Maskachka" pretty much means Moscow Suburb - and Maskavas Iela (Moscow Street), which goes through the whole hood, is the road that connects Riga to Moscow. Another popular name for ...

Indeed, Riga is almost as big as Vancouver. It is called Paris of the north, and with some ...
Storms at the Beach
... the economic downturn which has hit Latvia very hard.
For lunch, I go to a Middle Eastern café. This cuisine is extremely popular throughout the Baltic countries I have visited. It is along a pedestrian street, half a mile from the beach. When I read about it, I was hoping for a boardwalk> I have not seen a Boardwalk yet.
Back on the beach, I am just getting situated when thunder rumbles in the distance. It turns out not to be so far ...
