G. Suarez 240, Miraflores, Miraflores Lima, Peru, 18, 511-444-2829

I arrived in Lima and got a taxi (no tip given!!) to Milflores which is just outside Lima`s city center and meant to be a lot nicer and safer than Lima itself. I had 1 night to spend here before my GAP trip of Peru started and after an intital cock up with the hotel I had booked the day before (I turned up and they had no rooms). I eventually settled in a small hotel down the road. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice Milflores was as it is right on the sea and is quite cosmopolitan with lo...
Lima, Lima, Peru belljoToday was a very, very early wakeup. We woke up at 4:30 to get a quick breakfast and then take the bus over to the airport to catch our flight to Lima. Once we arrived our transfer to the hotel took quite a while because we kept running into what appeared to be a race course. It turned out to be the Human Race that Nike put on- it was 24 cities that ran races at the same time. I wish we had known about it because it would have been awesome to run in, but oh well. We saw the end of the race, a...
Lima, Peru chrisab14Our final day in Peru. We woke up and decided to return to Chef Café for breakfast. I had the "french toast" which was ok, although I wanted the Peruvian Breakfast, and Lizzie got the croissant. Then we went to a food market to try to find some Peruvian salt but unfortunately came up short- though we did see a lot of cool Peruvian produce that I didn't know before. Afterwards we took a cab to downtown and got dropped off at the Plaza de San Martin. We tried to go find the statue dedicated to ...
Lima, Peru chrisab14We finally arrived in Lima after just short of 24 hours of travel. Neither Lizzie or I were all that tired though, which was nice. We took a 30 min bus ride to the hotel, and along the way saw probably 20 stray dogs around the city. Peruvian stray dogs are everywhere, but they don't look all that ferrell. In fact, alot of the dogs aren't in fact strays but the owners let them roam the streets all day, and then they just come back home for food at dinner time. We arrived at the Mariel Hotel an...
Lima, Peru chrisab14At the moment of writing, which is different from the moment of uploading of course, I am sitting in the American Airlines flight from Lima to Miami. Very unusually I have an entire exit seat row to myself, which is great. The flight is old, which means that there are no personal TV screens, and although I had wanted to see "The Time Traveller's Wife" for quite a while after having read the book, the movie was really poor. So much for the present, and let me instead scribble a few words about...
Lima, Peru chrisser71The flight to Lima was effortles, and having collected both my bag and my nicely wita wrapped extra bag, it did not take me long to find the driver holding with the sign with my name on it. The drive through Lima revealed a busy and modern city. There are loads of buses and taxis here, and apparently the buses are all privately owned. As opposed to the chicken buses in Guatemala and the modern buses in Costa Rica, the buses here are small shuttle buses, but you would be amazed to see how many...
Lima, Peru chrisser71 Yes, for the first time in our 2 month marriage Annemieke has hit me! As you can see from the picture she gave me a black eye with her elbow! Of course, she claims it was an accident, but we all know her sometimes violent nature and this time I didn't do anything to provoke such a cruel attack on my sight...!
We are thinking of getting some marriage counceling, but given the extent of our Spanish we will have to wait untill New Zealand. For now I will have to live in fear untill then.....
Greetings from South America! After a long day of travel, I reached Lima at just past 7PM on Thursday evening. It was already dark out, and after passing uneventfully through customs and immigrations I met my driver for the 25km drive from the airport to my hotel. Lima is a city of 8M people and is without a metro, and so the streets were crowded with cars, buses, and bicycles. The drive was wild and involved a lot of beeping and swerving - which seems to be the norm here. I was exhausted fro...
Lima, Peru jeffrey.peo We made it to Lima ! The fine folks at Mariel Hotel were there to pick us up right on time. We had an excellent view of the Miraflores area from our room.
Our first adventure was finding the Cevicheria Del Mar ! Our first excellent meal in Peru - ceviche, soup and Cusquenia beer
Domestic flight early in the morning from Juliacta to Lima.
Back in Miraflores, Lima where we started our adventures. Walk to Huaca Pucllana inca ruins where they had found 4 mummies only 40 days ago. We ate a restaurant that Elaine from Seinfeld, the drummer of Iron Maiden and President Clinton had been to in the last year or so (not at same time)

... from between his own legs to under my seat. Strange, we thought. Then a few minutes later, Mark had the sudden inspiration to double check the contents of his bag. Sure enough, a few things were missing. Someone had clearly pulled the bag out from behind, gone through it at leisure and taken anything he or she fancied. The Nintendo DS that Mark had just been playing with was missing, as was his mobile phone and a torch. On top of that, his wallet wasn't in its ...
