Quite an eventful day. We woke to pouring rain (actually it had been pouring most of the night). Eventually we decided to get dressed as the rain eased, packed up except for breakfast things. More rain prevented us eating outside so we were back in tents to eat. By 9.30 we had packed wet tents and sodden flysheets and were away. Gradually the sky improved and we were in sun. Up ahead we saw black skies ahead pouring ...

... is going to turn and they are planning for it. It is fathered in settling to see them all stuck over the walls of the house so we turned a hose on them to try and deter them, it worked for awhile but some of them returned. Will be keeping the windows closed today.

Back to lunch, it was delicious and we have turned those shells into bisque yet again, I am so glad I married my darling French husband who can make a meal of anything. After lunch we went to explore the ...

After a quiet night on the campsite we enjoyed hot showers and a quick breakfast before setting off along the sea front - another varied seashore of sandy beaches with surfers and swimmers, sand dunes, rocky islands and busy port of Sable d'Olonne. The highlight was a stop at a restaurant for a 3 course meal, languatines, sea bass and rum baba - yum yum. A couple of days to La Rochelle ...

... No one even noticed my departure. My husband arrived much later and collapsed in bed snoring, dead to the world. I had to move down to the other bedroom to avoid the noise and went back to sleep with the door shut. The sound of voices approaching woke me up from a dead sleep, and I rushed down the hall to wake my husband, no small feat!!!! the voices were getting louder and closer and you could hear them shouting Dominique debout, get up in French. I ...

      Day 10 to St Hilaire

A chilly night tested our new sleeping bags. After a chilly breakfast we have enjoyed 46 miles by the sea I through very varied landscape - marshes (marias) with loads of oyster beds and shrimping nets suspended from raised sheds by drainage ditches - then sand dunes - and long seaside beaches to St Hilaire. Eventually found open campsite and now preparing supper. Bon ...
