... and Steve and Jane (our hosts) would have to chase them away so that the did not near the chicken coop. We had biscuit breaks and lunches which were mostly baguettes, pate, cheeses, ham and home made tomato chutney. We would then continue our days work till the job was finished and call it a day. Some other jobs or rainy days included deseeding pea pods and laying mushrooms out to dry.

Self sustained

... was the fact these guys are almost completely self sustained! They grow all their own vegetables, make their own cheeses, brew their own beer, ginger beer and spreads and even their own sausages, bacon etc. We are hopefully going to be shown as much as possible whilst we are here and learn some new skills. ... Off we go again heading towards La Rochelle, bidding Aouvoir to the old lady who fed the ducks. We arrived in La Rochelle which looked lovely but we didn't stop, pressing on to Ile de Re which is an island just off La Rochelle, the toll cost 16 euro to cross the bridge. We did a tour of the island in Sunny looking for the perfect camp site and eventually found it (in La Flotte - the first place we had passed on the way in) it had everything we needed for 24.50 Euro ...
