Madaba

After leaving Petra we stopped at a couple of places on the way to Madaba. The first place we stopped was Kerak Crusader Castle. This was on top of a high mountain so it was easy to defend. Parts of the castle were still quite in tack - while other parts were a falling apart. It had a great view of the landscape around that area. Mostly barren with a few crops growing around the place. The next place we stopped at off was the Dead Sea which was really, really cool! Very salty but you float! Y...

AH! more travel!

Today was another interesting day of travel. I began the morning wandering around some more areas of Damascus. The regular bus to Amman that I wanted to catch was packed and it was going to be another 5 hours until the next one. I decided to go for a "service taxi" instead. I was directed to the area for these taxis and found a huge facility with rows and rows of cars. Some that looked like yellow New York cabs and others were just regular sedans. The lines were not straight. For those who kn...

Measly Mosaics

After reading and hearing about the mosaics in Madaba I thought that i had better go and check them out. And I was glad I did - although not for the mosaics - which took all of five minutes to see and were mildly interesting - but for the taxi ride from the King Hussein Bridge to Madaba via Mt Nebo. It was a mildly hazy day but the view was still spectacular - you could see all the way down to the Dead Sea and the land surrounding it. Apparently on a clear day you can even see Jerusalem.

Madaba, Jordan From Egypt to Jordan... From Lisa: The second half of our Intrepid "Pyramids to Petra" tour took us to the Jordan cities of Aqaba, Petra, Madaba, and Amman. So much history here. From Petra, as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World, and the site where Moses' brother Aaron was buried, to Mt. Nebo where Moses' memorial and view of the Promised Land stands, to Madaba where we were able to visit the site on the Jordan River where Christ was baptized by John the Baptist! It was quit...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Mariam Hotel Madaba

Good value

from A TripAdvisor Member
I don't agree with the previous writer. It is a good quality budget hotel, with a very helpful owner who will arrange good value transport around the country.

The hotel has a nice pool, clean rooms and is good value.

A great choice for staying either the first night or last night as close to the airport. The owner arranges great value taxis.

Avoid the rooms facing the road if you can as they can be affected by traffic noise.

Hostile Hostel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Miriam for two nights in late March. Frankly, I was not impressed. The staff weren't super friendly, my impression was that they were rather uncaring whether we were there or not.

The rooms were old, the furniture run down, the food horrible. The one above average quality about the place was the satellite TV in the rooms.

If you have a car at the hotel, watch out. The neighborhood kids threw eggs at mine. I was told that I was lucky, they usually throw rocks!

Friendly and Clean

from Fiogunn
This is a fantastic budget hotel , and easily the cleanest we stayed in for five weeks of travelling around Egypt and Jordan. Madaba is charming and an excellent alternate base to Amman for exploring the area around Dead Sea, Mt Nebo, etc. Charl, the Manager, was very helpful and organised transport and trips for us at a low rate. Ibrahim is a very good cook, and the food in the restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Great hotel in Madaba

We came to Madaba with our six year old girl and we were worried, how to get to the airport at five o'clock in the morning. Also we wanted to go to the dead sea, but no clue, how. The manager from the Maryam Hotel arranged everything. He even gave us a takeaway breakfast and took all the worries from us!

As a very nice side effect, the rooms were very clean, breakfast was great and the staff very helpful.

Superb hotel!

A friend and I stayed at the Mariam Hotel for two nights in September and October 2005. A really excellent hotel and run by the extremely friendly and welcoming Charl Twal. Spotless and very tastefully decorated rooms. Excellent value for money. I can't recommend this place highly enough!

The best Hotel in Madaba

from A TripAdvisor Member
If you plan to visit Jordan and travel there. In Northern Jordan stay in Hotel Madaba. It is very good basin to make one-day-trips. This Hotel ist the perfect one. "Charlie" /the manager of this Hotel/ ist very good, he can advise you where you can make a trip. If there is no bus-connection, he can manage other tourist to travel with you by a car, so as you can share the cost for taxi.

I will come back once again and definately stay in Mariam Hotel in Madaba.

Loved the Mariam Hotel

We stayed in this hotel 19th and 20th September. It was very clean and the staff were very friendly. We had two of the new rooms overlooking the outdoor swimming pool. The hotel is ideally located to explore the mosaics in Madaba, Mt. Nebo, Dead Sea etc and is less than half-an-hour from the airport. Excellent value for money.

Friendly family hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel is well run by a friendly jordanian family. It is well situated , about 30 km from the Aman international airport in a small provincial town of Madaba in Jordan.

The hotel is located in a quiet street, not far from the city centre. The rooms are tidy and well kept clean. At the patio in the back there is a swimming pool with a cosy bar and shower facilities.

The Dead Sea rift valley is not far and also Mount Nebo with its spectacular panoramic view can easily be visited (10km). The owner is a geologist and he can tell you all about the surroundings.

We had a very good stay in the Mariam hotel at an affordable cost.

Very good budget hotel

from Sandcastles
My friend and arrived fairly late at night from Petra. We chose this hotel from our Lonely Planet guide which said it was great and it was right. Charl, the manager, and his cousin couldn't do enough for us. The main part of the hotel was busy but they've built an 'extension' just up the road and the rooms there were new, clean, quiet and comfortable and really well appointed for the rates we paid. Each has an ensuite bathroom and television. We were given a choice of any of the rooms. Charl organised for us to have a meal when we arrived. All the food we had there was fresh, healthy and plentiful, served in the communal dining room. Everything you would want to see in Madaba is within walking distance from this hotel. There's a nice, friendly convenience store across the road. If you're out and about in the middle of the day the kids want to practise their English on you. The day we left for the airport a taxi was ordered for us. Madaba is closer to the airport than Amman, by the way. The Mariam Hotel and Madaba are fantastic value for money. Amman was good but this was much better.

Good Base

Great family-run hotel which is more like a bed & breakfast. Rooms are spare but clean and a great value. The staff are friendly and will help to arrange transportation.
