We bid farewell to chateau country today. Not only were we saying goodbye to the wonderful Chateau Chambord this morning, but our destination tonight of Orleans (pron Or-lee-on) marks the end of the first section of the Loire a Velo Route - Loire Valley. This is the section of the Loire which is UNESCO World heritage listed and recognised for its …

Remember when I said I bought some new knickers yesterday. Well I didn't really understand the sizing. Despite the vast quantities of fromage I've consumed there's still plenty on room to move in these babies. Un grande knickers. Anyway...back to things of greater cultural relevance.

Toured the Abbey this morning on the Mont. OMGoodness. …

Orleans

Orléans is a city in north-central France, about 111 kilometres southwest of Paris, on the Loire River. We walked from the river through the beautiful little streets to the Cathedral which is a Gothic Catholic cathedral, named The Basilica of the Holy Cross. It was built in the 1200's and again between 1600 and 1800. The cathedral is probably most famous for its association with Joan of Arc. ...

... row boat on the river. We got the funniest pictures of the kids in oversized life jackets since all they had were adult sized life jackets. We then toured the inside of the castle and it was about 7:00 pm before we finally made it back to the parking lot to leave.

In what seemed to be a recurring gaffe on these trips, we found ourselves once again without a dinner plan, in an unfamiliar neighborhood in rural France, late in the evening when most ...

Don't drink the water

... a big house. On the way to the big house we drove through a village called Le Chiteau and although its a mix of translation and homonym Jess and I decided that we wouldn't drink the water there just to be on the safe side. The big house was not just any big house, we were off to the Chateau de Chambord which is located in Europe's largest park surrounded by a 32km wall so the Chateau had to be pretty big ...

The Hotel Marguerite is a slightly expensive but worthwhile stop. The service is great, the staff friendly and supportive, the WiFi excellent and a good breakfast. What more can you ask!

    Sweet but standard

This was a sweet little hotel, very centrally located. The room itself was fairly standard but everything was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was newly renovated, large and spacious. Most of the character seems to be from the outside but nothing to complain about either.
