The Hotel Marguerite is a slightly expensive but worthwhile stop. The service is great, the staff friendly and supportive, the WiFi excellent and a good breakfast. What more can you ask!

    Sweet but standard

This was a sweet little hotel, very centrally located. The room itself was fairly standard but everything was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was newly renovated, large and spacious. Most of the character seems to be from the outside but nothing to complain about either.

We bid farewell to chateau country today. Not only were we saying goodbye to the wonderful Chateau Chambord this morning, but our destination tonight of Orleans (pron Or-lee-on) marks the end of the first section of the Loire Valley section of the Loire a Velo Route. This is the section of the Loire which is UNESCO World heritage listed and …

We set off early from Beaune to start the drive to the Loire Valley. Our first stop was Chateau de Chambord. This huge palace was first built by Francis I, King of France at the time that Henry VIII was King of England. Ben noticed that the castle had a moat and inside a special winding staircase (a double helix). On the ceiling, Ben and Jon noticed a fire breathing lizard (a salamander which was the emblem of Francis) and big letter ...

One of the important things about choosing the emplacement at the campsite is how near the toilets are from your pitch. Our toilets and showers are about 15 yards away. Pretty close! So this morning I was lying in bed listening to Today holding tight so as not to disturb Sue. Couldn't wait any more and dashed out of the tent only to find that the toilets were closed for cleaning. I ...

Well i was warmer last night. I put extra insulation between me and the bed. Lovely morning. Went to Chambord Castle. It is a huge place with lots going on. We walked around the main building but didn't go inside. I don't think we would have appreciated it fully as the tour guides only spoke rapid French. The building is very beautiful and has a huge number of turrets. When you look at the castle, the turrets (although very ornate) are really random. You ...

... it was sunny and warm, we lay down by the riverbank, snoozing and relaxing, before enjoying some cold beers in the courtyard of our hotel. We've had a couple of games of Crowns, over the past few days, too. It's a bit reminisce of our Coast to Coast walk. These smaller towns are far nicer than the bigger cities, but our days and kms are a bit determined by the availability of accommodation. We are loving every bit of this trip. (Except for getting lost of ...
