    Beautiful Garden cabanas

Set in beautiful lush gardens with in a tropical jungle. This is a well established cabanas at the edge of Palenque. You can walk to the ruins or easily catch transport. Good food and music nearby. Marguerita is a gracious and caring host and is full of info and stories., She makes you feel right at home., and wants to insure you enjoy yr stay. More than the hostels, but worth it. Very comfortable.

Brilliant spot, excellent hospitality and great food

We stayed at Margarita and Ed's cabanas for 2 nights and it was excellent. The location to the ruins is very close, the restaurant next door - Don Mucho's was fabulous and the rooms were spotlessly clean. Despite being in the heart of the jungle, there were no insects at all in the rooms and the grounds were very pleasant. the prices were very decent too. Great stay, would highly recommend it to anyone.

    Side trip: Merida

The bus trip from Chichen Itza to Palanque would have been 10ish hours and may have been an overnight bus trip. I am a little nervous of night bus rides so we have decided to break up the trip and stop off at Merida.

We get the bus at 9.45am from Chichen and we are in Merida by 12pm. It is another hot walk of …

We were taking an afternoon tour to nearby waterfalls, Misol-Ha and Agua Azul. Earlier in the week, bandits had blocked the road to Agua Azul couple of times so fingers were crossed that it was clear today. We were picked up in a relatively smart air conditioned van that already had some passengers in it. They had spent the morning at the ruins and …

Breakfast was at Don Mucho's, the only place in the village that was open, and the menu looked pretty good and cheap. Maria went for the healthy option of a smoothie with a slice of toast. David went for the standard breakfast but was surprised at the size of it- a mountain of scrambled eggs, a bowl of beans and a stack of tortillas.

We were on the bus from Campeche to Palenque today, a six hour journey with just a couple of rest stops (and one stop for the Army to check the people and bags on board - obviously too close to the Guatemala border at the time!!). There was not much to see in the way of scenery, Campeche state, like the rest of the Yucatán peninsula is, as flat as …
