Abseiling and wine tasting

Yesterday after school Tammy and I met up with the other CMU students and the Kromer's and boarded a bus for Margaret River. The trip took about 4 hours and when we got there we were all pretty tired from a long week at school. We unpacked at the Margaret River Backpacker Hotel (a fancy name for a hostel) and went to bed. This morning we all woke up and headed to a beach. The neat thing about most of the beaches in Western Australia is that they are surrounded with cliffs. Here we abseiled, o...

Margaret River, day 2, part 2

Okay, so after a fun morning of surfing we were off to Margaret River (the actual river, not the town) for some canoeing and "bush tuckering." Tucker means food, so we were going to eat food of the natives. Tammy, Katie, and I decided to be a trio for canoeing (any surprises there?). We stopped along the way to learn some Aboriginal heritage and sample some Aboriginal medicines and foods. The first stop was a creepy forest. The forest contained Marri trees which the natives told all of their ...

Margaret River, day 3

Today was our last and final day in Margaret River. We were scheduled to leave about noon, so around 9:00 we packed up and left the hostel. We drove about 20 min. to Lake Caves. It was raining as we started down the 336 wood stairs (no I didn't count, they told us). Because my running shoes were still wet from me jumping out of the canoe yesterday, I was wearing flip flops. This is a bad idea. They have no traction and I fell down a few stairs. Thank goodness I didn't take anyone out with me....

Wine, Cheese, Chocolate and the country life

... the different fudges available and looking at all that was available to buy. (we brought some) Walking around the town was really nice it is rather busy town with many people getting about. I guess I expected a more sleepy town but all in all it was still well worth the walk around. Off to taste some cheese at the Cheese factory and that was yummy to.We got there and no one was visiting the place so we thought that we had it all to ourselves ...

Margaret River Meandering

The day started at Lake Cave, with its partly collapsed roof, lake, and suspended table. The reflections were beautiful. We then meandered through the countryside to a number of producers such as the Dairy Farm, Chocolate Factory and the Candy Cow at Cowaramup. We had lunch at the Colonial Brewery and then headed back to see Mammoth cave, with its huge cavern and bushwalk.

Moving on to Asia (BACK HOMEEE!)

... feel empty - I really want to move somewhere and start a new life. (Hmmm ... this feeling will probably last for the next couple of days - I know myself well enough). The question is: will I be satisfied in case I stop somewhere and try to "build" something? For what I know at this point is - that I miss my old life, my uni, my friends - each one of us leads his/her own little life now, chasing big dreams, clouds in the sky and a ...

Lake Cave for fascination

... There was a little plastic tunnel in which you could barely fit. It was supposed to be for kids I suppose. We went through it anyway. From each side once. That was harder than it looked like!

Margaret River - there and back

... mainly overcast with the occasional bursts of sunshine. I can't detail all the great places I visited and all the amazing and informative discussions I had in the last five days but I will give a bare-bones summary. Karri trees are amazing and only grow in the very south-west of Western Australia. They have something almost fantastical about them - they could have leapt (though trees can't really leap I suppose) from the ...

Margaret River

... grey, cold and drizzling - so our plan of walking between them went out the window and we decided to stay in. We could have driven around but one of the problems with visiting wineries is that unless you have someone else driving you can only visit a couple before one of you has to stop tasting for fear of being over the limit. Understandably, neither one of us fancied ferrying the other around drunk while they tried everything so we caught up ...
