Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

This is a simple hotel, with simple rooms, with a simple breakfast, that will do job.
If you want a pool, a breakfast with 3 miles and a runaway to put the car...this is not what you are looking for.

Milan to Dubai

Up at 6 for taxi to Cardona Nord and train to airport Checkin took an hour because of Pakis with big boxes and excess luggage. All were overweight and took ages to process. One disadvantage flying Emirates. Airport is a mess- hoardings everywhere and long queues in confined spaces. Plane half full- scored spare seat. Staff welcomed me back or greeted by name- must be doing a job ...

... We drove to Split airport and dropped off the hire car. We boarded the plane to Milan, which should have been a quick flight except that we had to stopover at Belgrade airport for two hours.
We finally arrived at Milan airport and were picked up by my cousin's son, Rainer. He only had a small Peugot so we had to put a couple of suitcases on our lap. Thankfully it was only half an hour to Como.
