Today we got up and had breakfast. It was the typical hostel/hotel breakfast.

Once we ate we went on the tourism hop on hop of tour. The information was pretty dull for a roman city with so many UNESCO sites.

We went to the amphitheatre which was pretty cool. There was the big fighting ring and the gladiator's cells which were tiny.

Sunday 21st September 2014

Today we got up and went checked out. I spoke to Pat for a good half an hour because it was my birthday. It was nice.

We went and got some pastries for breakfast and then hopped onto the train to Treir. It was delayed. Out second train was also delayed. This was due to a small landslide where rocks has fallen on the tracks. So instead of two trains and a 2 ...

... it was immense. After leaving camp this morning and dragging myself out of the extra spacious bed we set up last night we headed to 'Esch-Sur-Sure'. It was a very small village surrounded by a river, much like a moat around a castle. It did have a castle ruin at the top but we had little to no information explaing the place. ... did not rush, but were still able to catch the 10.05 bus in to the city for our second day of sight-seeing. We headed first to the outer wall where the "Casemates" are. These are long tunnels hewed out of the rock
which were used in days gone by for sheltering from the enemy. They stretch some 23km in all and you can walk through quite a bit of them. It was very dark, very uneven and lots of
spiral stone steps, quite challenging for us ...
