'Greece. A masterpiece you can afford.'

Introductory note

The little problem I have with sharing my travel experience with you is that eventhough my English is kind of fluent, I would prefer to put down my thoughts in the language of my home country. But then all my writing would be understandable only to those of you who know Polish. There is a solution for this, of course and that is to write these notes both in English and Polish. I will see. Have not decided yet.

My travelling has not started with Greece, yet my v...

One Last Stop

... 6 AM, so we paid an extra 30 Euro to keep our hotel room till the evening. That allowed us to come and go all day and have a shower after our late supper before checking out. It was a bit of a grind to get back to Canada. We caught the bus for the half-hour direct trip to the airport where we hung around listening to terrible Muzak for seven hours. Our only entertainment was ...

... and there is a sense of activity in the air. We settled in and wandered into the town to have a look around and some dinner. The GPS doesn't work outside of Athens so we went back to the old way to navigate in Greece, Judy translating the Greek signs. Day 81 May 2nd (Saturday) Things are back to normal as the stores are open again. We have to pack up as we are staying in a different hotel tonight -- one with a view of the sea. We spent the day driving along the ...

... story to tell about Laoula and Boyce, it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen. One day we were sitting in the cafe having a beer while Laoula was telling us for the tenth time that the girls today are terrible because they are working instead of having children and soon there would be no 'bambinos' running around and that TV and America were to blame for it all. In a moment of silence she mentions that Boyce looks a little burnt from the sun and that as she has lived on the ...

Athens!

... There's really no other word for it. We did walk through the most expensive street in Athens, as far as living is concerned, and it is beautiful and, in contrast to the rest of the city, very clean. At the Acropolis, there was confusion with our student IDs; as it turned out, students under 19 and students in the European Union are free, and all other students are half price. So I used up my last Eurocents to scrape together the six ...

Meteora to Athens

... Man was it ever nice to see people I knew :D We walked around the Acropolis together, which I thought was a little disappointing. Half of it is covered with construction and stuff, so there was not a whole lot to see. But it was still pretty sweet to see the Parthenon (even with the metal things all over it) and some of the smaller temples were really nice. After that we saw the Theatre of Dionysus, and the Temple of Zeus. On our way to the hilton we came by the ...

Karpathos- Three days

... swimmer) I spent more time in thought. Eventually, I spread my towel on the stones, smoked meditatively and let my thoughts wander and did some heavy thinking about the purpose of this portion of my trip. I spent about two hours there and returned to the house, a bit calmer. For dinner, we crossed the wider bay to Alekos' cousin (of course) Hronis, and his wife Irenee, to have dinner with them. After introductions and talk (mostly in Greek). We decided to return to the same ...

We Hit All The Athens Highlights

... it looks like a man is wearing a short dress, white tights, and wooden shoes adorned with pom-poms over the shoe’s top. While one might be tempted to tease the "manliness" of these soldiers, their guns provide a strong deterrent from taking this action. Instead, we camped ourselves across the street from the Tomb and took pictures of the Evzones marching around the tomb.

Eventually, Athens’ abundance of concrete does begin to wear on a person. What makes ...
