We are soooo ready to go.
But there is only one way to begin this blog - with a huge thank you to our Dad for this incredible gift!
Thank you! We love you! We are looking forward to boring the hell out of you with our pictures at New Years!

The end of an era. A short era, but still the end

... done most of it before, so no biggie for me. Finally got to see Lombard St, though, which is pretty unique, and we've been down other streets which are dangerously steep. It's so peculiar to see cars parked, looking as if they're about to tip over at any second. And we did do a boat tour around the bay, which took us under the Golden Gate Bridge and around Alcatraz. That was good, even though I got burnt to bits. OK now though. And been to see the new Die ...

Finally getting up the West Coast of the US.

... was walking up and down the Strip, that's where all the casinos are, and lose money. But I must say that I wasn't that bad. In total I only lost 20 bucks. I won 50 the first day, and I didn't play so much. The good thing is that while you gamble you get free drinks. So, if you manage to keep track of your money, you can actually save some. But is really hard to keep track of it. The casinos themselves are already a big attraction. It would be possible to just go to Vegas for sightseeing ...

If you're going to San Francisco...

... a dead elephant on my back as I wondered if I would ever get to the hostel barely noticing my surroundings just glancing up every now and then counting down the numbered streets till I reached the correct one. Making it to the hostel without collapsing I stepped into the empty dorm with it only being mid-afternoon but my bed was already calling to me, falling asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow at only 4pm and being completely comatosed for the next 16 hours.

Am I ready? Of course not.

I leave the bay area in 4 days and I still have a fair amount of stuff to do. Although writing this entry will be a check off the list. What's left on the list? Number one is probably to find a place to stay my first night in Australia. Yikes, that one sounds important. My immediate ...

Sunday in San Fran

... climber so to have lasted 2 days without serious injury is a good thing. We had a bit of a lie in today, I always apprecaite not having to check out so much, plus our room is toasty warm and the beds really comfy. But we hauled ourselves out the room and headed to China Town again. Most of it was closed when we looked around on Friday night but today it was a different story, it was packed and so busy. It was also the biggest China Town ...

Big Sur!! Yes Sir!!

... Imagine musk, but much, much worse. The dramatic coastline is just beautiful, and we headed up to Big Sur amongst ominous clouds. The sunny shores of So Cal were retreating in our rearview mirror when the first rains we had seen in over a month began to fall. Gray Whales, on their migration to Baja, spouted offshore as we drove the Pacific Coast Highway through redwood groves and rolling hills. Per Zoë's parents' instructions, we stopped at Nepenthe (the home Orson Wells ...

... mayor of New Orleans did not order mass evacuations was the fear of being sued. Now the mayor of Houston is facing potential civil action for unnecessarily causing businesses to lose money by ordering the mandatory evacuation of a city in the path of a Force Five hurricane! Only in America. Tornadoes spawned by Rita are ripping across the southeast and it's flooding as far north as Shreveport in Louisiana (where we're hoping to stay with a globalfreeloaders couple who were our guests ...
