The senior officer instrusted the junior to ingore our passport and swipe our Return Home Permit like what they normally do with a regular Chinese passport. Bingo, that's exactly what the officers would do at the China-HK boarder control. It still took him a long time to process all 3 of ...

When we were in the compartment on our own we spent a lot of time looking out of the window - we passed Lake Baikal which was frozen and beautiful. Amazing just to see ice ice and more ice.

... to places that public transport doesn’t go - if you can speak Chinese, ask a cab driver if they know of any travellers who might be interested in booking a car together. They often give their cell phone numbers to travellers for this reason. If they know the price of the car is too expensive but that you will think about it if you have another person to split the price with, they will try and help you out. The best ones to ask are those who pick people up from ...
