Well here I am in Africa...I'd like to say sunny but alas it's raining ;o( Arrived yesterday morning with only one little hiccup! When I arrived in Nairobi they announced that anyone with a boarding card for Mombasa, should remain on the plane. So, with boarding card already printed, there I sat. Until....about 15 mins later, an airport official came onto the aircraft to check the cards. At which point, I was told that I should have got off because my next flight wasn't for another hour! This...

Tiwi, Coast, Kenya miles1So we were delighted to eventually to arrive at the stunning Southern Palms Hotel.

We had an amazing ten days staying with them. All the facilities were perfect and the staff were lovely.

We didn't do a huge amount of strenuous activity, but did partake of a beach walk one morning up to the Congo River along with a couple of games of squash (energetic huh?!). We were sure to sample ...
Mombasa, Kenya lolandlaurie... a few days and then officially adopted Rita Aisha, or Aisha as she likes to be called. When Aisha was eleven, she was in a public bathroom behind her home and was crying hysterically. She had been praying and crying to God, begging him to help her find a way to pay for her schooling because otherwise she would be kicked out. As it just so happens, a woman by the name of Naomi, who lives nearby and is a friend of one of the people working for ...
Mombasa, Coast, Kenya taliasegal... President Kibaki hd won his second term in office, however, his opponent, Raila Odinga, claimed that the poll was rigged. What resulted was months of mass riots between the various ethnic tribes in Kenya where homes, churches, shops, etc. were set into flames. After only one month about 1000 people were killed and over 600,000 were displaced. Otter, Valatka, and Dallacqua- you'll love this. I was walking ...
Mombasa, Kenya jeneggener... bed carved out of wood; the earlier pictures in chapter 11 and 12 show the finished results. Anyway it's Friday and I'm leaving in about 10 minutes for school; thanks to my step mother Dee emailing several children's stories and a few ryhmes over that I've learnt during the night; I can share our nation's favourites with these kiddies. Till the next time. Axxxx (PS the turtle is for Ellen and Annie who I miss very much)
Mombasa, Kenya amandab9375... if I can. If not look for them in future blogs. I would like to have students from the US and other parts of the world join both of our schools in a joint pen pal program. I would also like to raise some money to help the school in Mombasa buy a computer and internet service. I thought it would be nice if the schools could use a web program such as skype to communicate with each other.
Mombasa, Kenya ivanmorton... and know Bible very well. No more missionaires are needed here - in fact, if any missionaires to be send - should be reverse direction. Europe is the one in need. For majority of people, especially those in the orphanages, faifh gives strong motivation to move on and fills up with optimism. Which probably often associated with mzungus. Coming from not so rich country as Lithuania, I probably really feel very awkward to be considered as ...
Mombasa, Kenya shoeinmissin... we took a matatu to town. Matatus are the local mode of transportation throughout much of Africa. I could write an entire entry on my experiences in matatus. They're basically small vans identical to a VW bus packed with up to 20 people at a time. While they drive there's a person called a taut who hangs out the side door yelling the matatu's destination to try and collect passengers, and people jump on and off as they need to. Riding in these ...
Mombasa, Kenya nomad_chad... boys selling their wares. But right after I got off, one came up to me and told me he loved me and kissed my hand. So I went home! And Chelsie and Kara cooked an amazing fettuccine alfredo dinner for us. We had an early night. Oh, and colobus monkeys and regular monkeys were just chilling outside our patio. And there was bat poo on my mosquito net. Not in it, just on it. Always fun. That happened to me last year too. We woke up a little early the next day and I showered with ...
