... our days there on the fly, so who knows what could be in store? I have my fingers crossed that I can SCUBA Dive with some Hammerhead Sharks. Kaela is keen on seeing some (Blue-footed) Boobies.

We´ve got the photos function of this blog working, so we have added some to the last entry and will continue to upload them as often as we can. Internet is pretty slow over here (when there is electricity).

Hasta Luego.
Damon
Days 41-43

... do it justice. It also started clouding / misting over and was fairly cold, so we didn't hand around too long.

Headed into the 'old' historic town in the later part of the afternoon and just wandered the streets, dodging the crowds. Went into the La Compañía de Jesús in Quito which was fairly tacky. Anyway, thats Quito and tomorrow is the Galapagos, therefore no updates for another week.

Quito and the Galapagos Islands

... a trifle nauseated from the boat so even I drifted off while I was reading a book.

The boat took us around to Post Office Bay, where in the days of old, whalers would leave letters and information for another person passing through to take to their loved ones. The tradition continues and so we left several postcards in the wooden post barrel with our addresses on them, so we’ll see if they make it home. The closest one we found left by somebody else was south of Sydney ...

Can we make it???

... as old town. There are sooo many churches, cathedrals, museums and just old colonial architecture. We are only going to be here for three days before we head out to this hostels sister hostel the Secret Garden in Cotopaxi, which is Ecuadors largest active volcano, I can harly wait. The food is good and the beer is cheap not to mention that everyone that we talk to has another activity that we have to do before we leave. Some are really interesting ...

Volunteering in Ecuador, 1. contribution

... thank you very much for taking the time and interest. I certainly hope to hear from you, either from personal greetings or comments in a scientific light, and as well I hope that you will be reading my next contribution in probably a few weeks.
Finally I just want to say that even though I’m doing really well here in Ecuador, enjoying the food, the nature, the work, the people and more, I really miss my friends and family and lots of other stuff from little Denmark.

Take care all, Martin.

Our Journey to Middle Earth

... we skipped. The insectarium was free, however, and we enjoyed the huge bugs. We declined their kind offer to take a photo of us with a horned beetle on our clothes, for an extra $2.

Finally sun scorched and hungry, we made our way back to Quito. This morning we were up early hunting down the bargains, and finally found one that did the trick. So, we go to the Galapagos on Sunday, July 19th. HOORAY!
Sometimes It's Okay to be a Lemming

... 8217;t know what to say, because my everyday vocabulary is most likely different than that of a typical American; funny, because Daniel already knew most of the derogatory, negative phrases in English (I told him me siento mal por enseñarte malas palabras). All I had to say was the first letter, and he filled in the blanks. That’s as far as I would go.

Daniel also told me that people in Ecuador sometimes refer to the U.S ...

Caught Slippin

... think of myself as a victim when this could have been easily avoided. My inner frat-boy wanted to cross back over to Peru and introduce five knuckles to my perpetrator's faces and start breaking jaws. Thank God I´ve come a long way since my college days. Would the driver used the knife with violence against me? Doubtful. The look on his face was clearly that of a novice thief. I think the knife was even shaking under his nervous hand. I do know it´s not worth ...

Close encounters with eggs at the Equator

... for the meat. A good way of turning vegetarian!

We were taken to a coco coffee cafe for lunch, and a half-time break; as the second half of the tour in the afternoon would involve equatorial encounters. Our destination was the "Mitad del Mundo" - the middle of the world. Quito offers what is purported to be the real equator, and the official one - which is actually next door to it! Funnily (and competitively) they do not advertise or make the existence of ...

day in old town

... an ecuador hostel, weird. i keep my distance) went to El Ciudad Viejo (the old city) or El Centro. The old city was designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978. So, a lot of the buildings are either originals or in the process of being restored. we went to dinner at a ´fancy´ restaurant called Vista Hermosa (a beautiful view). I had pizza, nothing special. We tried canelazo, which is a drink made from aquadiente (sugar alcohol) and hot ...
