advantage of being on a plane to Beijing with a plateful -ok a spoonful of caviar in front of me, not to mention a harem of happy Dutch flight attendants intent on stuffing me to bursting point with stroopwaffels. This time I have a National Express.

From York, we took a Cook's tour (James Cook lived in Whitby and served his apprenticeship in Whitby) to Whitby. We loved Whitby so we parked the car for the day and walked to the Abbey, along the river, to the fish and chip shop (Bradley's - almost as good as Barts)and to the beach. After this we headed west and North to Newcastle. We are actually 10 ml west of Newcastle.
Our accommodation is a refurb of an 1878 built stables for a local doctor's house. Very roomy.

It raining and almost blizzard conditions when we arrive and very difficult to find accommodation, Eventually we get some and then rooms had to change because wifi wouldn't work, Enjoyed some nice fish and chips int he new ...

As we had had our eyes tested in Eastbourne and both need new glasses we managed to order them in Skipton but arranged to have them delivered in Newcastle. This means we have to be in the area for a week or so. As it is about 40 years since we last visited Whitby we decided to make that our next stop. The town centre itself has changed ...

... most powerful English peer of his age, with political connections that went beyond the country's borders. He was one of the Yorkist leaders in the War of the Roses and instrumental in the deposition of two kings, a fact which later earned him the name of “Kingmaker”.

We had only planned to spend a short time at the castle before moving on to visit a National Trust home however when we arrived, we found out that ...
