Day 2: Cheboygan, Michigan - Where to?

After driving through much of Michigan, to include the wild turkey and elk capitals of the state, we arrived for the night in Cheboygan. It was originally an Ojibwe Indian settlement and stands on the northern reaches of Lake Huron. Yesterday's drive was nice and our tour along the back roads and country lanes of Michigan alternated between fields of corn and sugar beets and stands of evergreens.

So where to? First to Mackinac Island with Shepler's Ferry. Boarding ...

“AR AR AR AR AR!” A loud noise hurts my ears. Tricky slams on the brakes. Big brother, Slick, jumps out of the car, and runs to the back.

“Tricky, you ran over a puppy!” he yells. “I’ll get a shovel.”

One place we visited was the Ocqueoc Falls Bicentenial Pathway, where we watched salmon climbing the falls to spawn, hiked a beautiful trail that followed the river and enjoyed great fall colors. These falls, although they don't seem overly impressive compared to those in the U.P., are actually the largest falls in the lower penninsula.
