Another one night stay which is a shame as Lake Maggiore was definitely one of the highlights of our trip so far.
We headed east with a planned stop for lunch in Verona before finally arriving in Venice.
During the drive we stopped at a winery, Fratelli Berlucchi in the Franciacorta region, that specialised in making Spumante. Now, I know …

A lot has been written about Venice. It's beauty. It's romanticism. It's location. All this is true as Venice is a magical place. Everywhere you look there are storybook vistas. Even the local Venetians make fascinating watching as they go about their lives.
I can see why only Venetians live in Venice. It would be a very difficult place to …

Venice underwater… literally!

... option most of the time.

Mid afternoon when the tide went out the water had subsided but we were informed by the locals that this would happen again tomorrow and Monday. With the temperature also dropping and the wind picking up…... we were soon discovering that the limited clothing we had in our 70L backpacks probably wasn't suitable for much of this weather.

We opted for a restaurant close to home for dinner. It ...

... trained it over from Ancona which we had just survived an overnight ferry on a hard seat which was terrible. We had skipped dinner again as we didn't have enough cash to buy anything. Funny they don't have ATMs on a ferry, but they have TV and internet? I was so confused. Do people plan to buy 500 euro duty free items beforehand and bring cash with them on a boat? Sounds dangerous to me.

    superb location, poor accomodation

In the city center, next to vaporetto stop Sant' Angelo, it is conveniently located to explore the city. Unfortunately that is what you pay for: the location.
The room is small and relatively clean (don't look under the bed), the bathroom is old and lacks some maintenance, resulting in rust and mould around the edges of the shower. All the basic amenities are there and are working.
Breakfast buffet is good but not often enough refilled.
Overall: if you find the location important, this is the place to be. If you are looking for luxury and quality you should probably pay (even) more or go outside of Venice

    Peaceful, amazing view, great location

    from TravelingAdict

A lovely hotel in a peaceful courtyard away from the real hustle and bustle of Venice. Although that was only a 10 minute walk away. However, the hotel is right on the Grand Canal with a waterboat stop (San Angelo, route 1) outside - perfect for getting everywhere. Can see the Rialto Bridge from the balcony - can you ask for anything more?

Staff were ever so helpful and friendly - would certainly recommend and return.

    Had a really nice stay...

    from anonymous

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. Desk staff were particularly attentive and helpful, and quick with a smile-- which is not always the case among hotel staff in Italy. They arranged for us to have a room with access to the 1st floor balcony, which we shared with one other room and had absolutely stunning views of the Grand Canal. Rooms were good-sized and modern, and housekeeping service was first-rate. Hotel is right on top of Water Bus stop, which, we came to realize, is a major plus if you're toting some serious baggage.. About 10-15 minute walk from Piazza San Marco, if that's important to you. Bar and breakfast seemed expensive, but as we don't generally utilize bar or breakfast, this didn't affect us. Our only complaint was that the shower was somewhat temperamental, with temperatures vacillating between soothingly hot and gut-clenchingly cold, but that tends to be the kind of thing that varies from party to party. Overall, at about $200 USD/ night, we found this place a good value. If you're able to get a room with a view, the value is better than good.

Loved it! Clean, quiet, nice courtyard for breakfast.

September 2004: Awesome location. Elegant, not gaudy. Very clean. Friendly staff. Great breakfast (which you could take in the quaint courtyard).

    Would stay there again!

    Loved the Manin

    from erniec

We had booked elswhere but at the last minute read a dreadful bed bug report on the hotel in Trip Advisor. We now think that Fate was on our side in redirecting us to the Manin. It was spotless and civilised. Excellent breakfast which we were able to have in the garden. The room was immaculate and everything worked. The hotel sits quietly on the Grand Canal but is minutes away from San Marco and the Accademia. Local restaurants not brilliant but the vaporetto stop is 10 yards from the front door so Venice is truely your oyster! And it was not expensive either. Highly recommended.

    Great little gem!!!

    from anonymous

A gem of a hotel. Clean, well appointed, air-conditioned rooms. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Just 50 feet from Sant Angelo vaperretto stop.

Former opera house converted to small (18 rooms, I believe) hotel. Lovely garden where breakfast is served and Happy Hour observed.

    Highly Recommend!

    from anonymous

The Hotel Manin was a perfect start to a first visit to Venice. Everything superceded our expectations...Lovely room with 2 gorgeous Venetian chandeliers, great air conditioning, clean, modern bathroom, nice linens and a charming view over the hotels courtyard and small piazza. The staff were gracious and accommodating. Great location, convenient but a step off the crowded Piazza San Marco area. Quiet and pleasant. The water bus stops right in front, so if arriving by air take the #1 line (5 euro) and save the 80 euro water taxi fare. Highly recommend!!

    Simply the best

    from anonymous

My wife and I wanted to celebrate our first wedding anniversary in style, and thought Venice would be the most romantic of places to go.

After a serious amount of research on the city, and on it's prices and hotels, we opted for the Manin Hotel.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel (which is situated right on the front of the grand canel), we were treated as family, guests and almost royalty. The staff couldn't do enough for us.

The room (a standard double) contained an enourmous Kingsize bed, minibar, TV, phone and a bathroom that has outshone other 5* hotels we have stayed in.

Extremely quiet, and a location that would be hard pressed to be beaten.

If you want a top class hotel, at a reasonable price, in the heart of Venice then this is the place for you.

Walking distance to every tourist site you could want to vist while here, and literally 10 steps to the public botas that polugh the grand canel, this hotel is without a doubt..THE..hotel to stay in.

As you can tell, I can't say enough about it, and given that this was our first wedding anniversary, the hotel had alot of expectations to fufill.

    AAA+++

    Forget Paris....

    from anonymous

During a two week stay in London, my friend and I managed to stay four glorious days in Venice. My stay at the Manin was wonderful. This hotel combines classy Venetian style with a truly friendly staff. These folks turned down the bed at night and left mints and cookies on the pillow. The location is beyond convenient--a ten minute jaunt from the San Marco Piazza and the bus station was practically outside of the front door. The breakfast included was delicious--it combined a good selection of pastries and sweet treats with eggs, meats, dry cereals, and juice and champagne (mimosas anyone?). The room was small and the ultra fancy bathroom takes some getting used to but these are really the only potential downsides of this beautiful hotel in the most romantic city in the world...forget Paris baby, it doesn't have a thing on Venice.

    Very happy with Manin Hotel

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Manin Hotel for three nights in April and were very pleased. The room was spacious, and we had a great balcony overlooking the canal. Service was good as well, and we enjoyed the breakfast selection. Location was great, being right by the vaparetto stop and within walking distance of everything without being in the middle of it. Highly recommended!

    Excellent Hotel

    from anonymous

Spent 5 wonderful days at the hotel, during the carnival (Feb 2004).

The hotel is very new. All facilities are in excellent condition. The room was spacius and the towels & linen were very clean and of high standard. The staff is very knowlegeable and friendly. Breakfast has a large variety. Key advantage is that the hotel is exactly situated at the grand canal "Vaporator" (water shuttle) stop. Therefore, transportation is very easy ! Highly recommended.
