Dubai - I'm on Top of the World
... early night of it so I sat on the balcony with some fruit juice, watched the fountains and called it good. Unfortunately, my body didn't think so and I tossed and turned. I am having a tough time adjusting to the time difference and am feeling rather sleep deprived. Hopefully, another day or two will cure the problem.
Sunday morning I grabbed some breakfast (more yummy middle eastern goodness) and decided I needed to have a "date taste test". ...

... hotel on the metro had got me excited as you could see the city out of the window. First stop was the souks in the Old Town. We took the metro there and then caught a dhow (boat) across the water to the souks. I was surprised that although there were the usual gold and spice souks there were also touristy ones which sold a lot of 'tat' as well. The souks were definitely something interesting to see and I think it gave us a bit of an insight into the 'old' ...

... und schweigend zur Kenntnis genommen, dass mein Koffer 30,6 kg anstatt der erlaubten 30 kg hatte. Zum Glück, denn am Schalter nebenan mussten Leute wieder auspacken, weil ihr Koffer 37 kg wog. Da ich bis zum Boarding noch etwas Zeit hatte, hat Karo mir ein wenig Gesellschaft geleistet und mich während der Wartezeit gut unterhalten. Danke dafür! Und immer dran denken, Karo, während meiner Abwesenheit weder schwanger werden noch heiraten. ;)

Dubai day 1
... When we boarded we found the elevators were not operating as a component of the drill that was ran during the night. We went to the Purser's desk to request they be turned on. The interaction was funny between JoRina and I and the Purser. We were so tired the thought of walking up 11 flights was not welcome. Fortunately they were able to turn the elevators on and we went straight to bed.

... we started the evening with a cocktail party. Soft Drinks, wines but no hard spirits.The venue was really nice and the environment was like a scene from Arabian Nights, We were called to dinner by a small walking band playing traditional arab music and the shepherded into the dinng room by a number of very pretty belly dancers.
When seated we were very well entertained by a troupe of Arab Dancers who gave us a very energetic performance and this was followed ...
