this trip was very special to me,because it was the first one after I finally finished with school and had the freedom to do everything I want, without anybody else controlling me!the only thing I wanted to do is find a nice place with great people to relax and so I did.i met many interesting people and it was a journey to remember!
Naxos, Cyclades, Greece malena.drelaWell, a very enjoyable last night in Santorini. had dinner at a lovely restaurant overlooking the sunset strip. Pity it wasn't the clearest of nights but still spectacular.
Dinner consisted of grilled pork with pureed red pepper and potatoes with cheese and Souvlaki Lamb with baked potato.
A 5.00 am start got us on to the flight to Athens then Rome.
After a sleep in we wandered into town to choose a suitable location for our anniversary dinner tonight (21 years!).
As usual we just had to take more photos ~ don't worry, after a few more tonight this will be all of Santorini.
Next, Italy where the forecast is 0 to 14 degrees. BRR BRR
The weather has improved remarkably, the wind dropping from the 40 knot+ from yesterday as we set off on the sailing vessel "Captain Yannis". We departed Amoudi Wharf and motored to Nea Kameni, the volcano island, where we saw the evidence of eruptions dating back to 1630 BC.
That first eruption was 70 times larger than Krakatoa in Indonesia and produced a tsunami 250m high!
The most recent eruption was in 1950 and even today we could see hot steam venting from the ...
... a magic show, saw a comedian, and sang along with an Elton John impersonator. We skipped a few of the singing and dancing shows as Steve wasn't sure he could stomach it. We had really nice weather- it only rained on the last day when we were at sea. We ate a lot of meat to get some protein and avoided bread and pasta since we will be eating a lot of both during the rest of the trip. We were sad to get off the ship but are excited about the next 6 weeks of backpacking.
Santorini, Cyclades, Greece steveandwhitney... main beach. They had a great pool which is where I spent most of my days. At night I went to Ios town which was a 20 minute walk from the campground. It was a pretty typical tourist town, lots of bars and clubs. Tomorrow I take a ferry back to Athens, then a bus to Corfu.
... view of the beach from my front door. No air conditioning but there sure was a fan. I had made plans to go wake boarding with a couple of the guys on the trip and waited for them for ever... They finally showed up and we headed out into a more mild part of the bay and boarded in the ocean. It was awesome. The first guy that went was really good but I held my own thanks to my good teachers ...
Ios, Greece dfurler... and so welcoming, saying hello to you as you pass by them on the street. I really, really, really don't want to leave!!!! AGH! I've been tossing around plans and digging my heals in, and think I've come up with something that will work, but still not too sure. Mykonos tomorrow night for two nights, then I am thinking I might end up back here for a few more nights and of sun and sand. Then I might hit up Corfu on the west coast of Greece before back to the UK. I ...
Ios, Greece steph_444... ve seen are straight out of Bladerunner after being beat to death by a bad outfit from The Beauty Bar. 3. Women here are, and please don't take offense to this ladies, generally hotter in every sense of the word. 4. In much of Europe, it's not uncommon to take your dog shopping with you. Or anywhere else for that matter. 5. Public transportation i.e. buses, subways, etc. are nice and efficient. And put American ...
Ios (an island you douches), Greece redrevolver... point. We were beginning to get really lazy though so decided to take the fast ferry over to Santorini as the weather took another turn for the worse.. We just had the one night in Santorini and explored Thira with its great views over the caldera. The cloud even broke so we got a kind of sunset. We treated ourselves to a chinese curry- the first curries since India before heading back to our room as we were to move on back to Athens the next day.
