Day 7: London to Capetown When: November 20th, 2007 - Night Point of Entry: On a plush green coach in an apartment that I rented for our stay. We finally arrived at our third destination earlier today - Capetown, South Africa. I was expecting the theme music for James Earl Jones' character in "Coming to America" to start blasting out of nowhere. But alas, it didn't. Instead, I was greeted by a bright warm South African Sun fit for a King or a weary traveller, in my case. I really didn't know ...

Then, despite my lifelong phobia about these kinds of heights, I took another. At first the process can be quite intimidating. Despite the fact that that morning was particularly cold, cloudy and windy, my sweat managed to pour off me.

Letting go of the rope when on the edge, stretching my arms wide into the empty space around me while ...

But it's how they make a buck, so they're willing to do whatever they need to.

After about one hour of this, we finally reached Wynberg... which normally takes us 20 minutes by train. Then, at the end of our normal ride to Hout Bay (another 25 minutes), we couldn't be happier to be at the clinic! What an ...

I had a lamb burger with cheese and carmelized onions...sounds strange but it was delicious. The last vineyard produces wine and champagne. We started with a tour of the facilities. They took us through the process of making and bottleing wine and champagne. Then we sat in a small private room for the tasting ...
Cape Town, South Africa gajordandk51... any sign that it was midnight, no ball dropping, no announcement, but we just assumed it was when it seemed like the majority of people were wishing each other a Happy New Year.) It was pretty crowded there, uncomfortably so at some points, so after midnight, we headed back to the hotel. It was a pretty early night but mom and dad were jetlagged and I had had a pretty sleepless week. New Years Day we decided to go to Table Mountin. At the front desk ...

I finally walked in my gate, tired and with no voice from screaming, at 6am. 2. Drum Cafe. The other day, as part of our orientation activities, the international students were seated outside for a one-hour drum lesson. It was awesome. This group called Drum Cafe taught us and put on a mini-show afterwards. Having hundreds of us all drumming together having ...
Cape Town, South Africa mcline999... a different trip than the first part in South America. Much more of a lesson in very recent history as well as origins going back further than any place on Earth. After seeing the "Big Five", bungee jumping and tasting, seeing and doing everything I could, I'm ready to come home. Thank you to everyone who has supported this incredible experience in my life, as it is one I will never forget. See you soon! Michael
Cape Town, South Africa mikerbh... attached a large tuna to a long rope as bait, and it wasn't more than 5 minutes until we got our first glimpse of a great white! While I never felt scared inside the cage, I was still completely in awe of these giant creatures. After a couple times of viewing them further out from the boat, they started to get closer. The captain would keep the bait right in front of the cage so that the sharks would attack at full speed right before ...
