... our guide said that it would be a 3 to 4 hour journey back to Bangkok. Today was the queen of Thailand's birthday which brought to an end a 4 day public holiday. It seemed as though the whole of Thailand were heading to Bangkok and the journey took over 6 hours, most of which seemed to be spent stationary in hideously busy traffic. The rest of the time we passed wandering around the city, going to markets and people watching. Bangkok is the sort of city that you can pass hours not doing a lot but still finding it really interesting.
We would like to have stayed longer but we only get 30 days in Thailand before we need to pay to extend our visas so we thought we had best head up North.

We spent quite some time strolling through this phenomenon, then walked on towards the Siam Museum. The road passes over a Klong (canal) with foul-smelling water. Several men stood in it, breast-deep, fixing oxygenerators electric outboard-engine devices. We wonder how their skin will react.
