Back in SE Asia

In short, this has been a great vacation. We really enjoyed Malaysia and did some fantastic things on Borneo. I met Mike in KL on the 28th, where he was on business, and we stayed at the Mandarin Oriental right next door to the Petronas Towers. Yes, they are as tall as they look. I was out of it for about two days, but fared well hanging out by the pool. Nice to have the hotel "poolboys" coming over with glasses of lemony ice water and ice cold spritzer bottles to cool down in that hot KL sun...

KLCC and the MO

The MO in KL is one of the nicest hotels in SE Asia. The staff are amazing, the club floor is devine and the view of the Petronas Towers and the KLCC park are worth the price of admission. By far one of my favorite hotels in the region and one I consitantly return to.

Day 2

We had our 9AM start yesterday in Singapore and then two easy days driving to see the towns of Malacca and Kuala Lumpur. It was all expressway. Avalanche is doing well and quite comfortable. The briefing in Singapore did not sit well with Clara and Ernie when the Doctors started talking about treatment of snake bites and not wandering far from a road in the north because of unexploded land mines. The jungles are teeming with weird animals. In Malacca we watched a 5 foot lizard swim past our ho...

We arrived late in Kuala Lumpar after two flights - ready for our hotel room!! Thankfully we were staying in a particularly good hotel, the Mandarin Oriental, which arranged for our weary selves to be collected from the airport and taken to the hotel, situated just at the base of the Petronas Towers in central KL. On arrival there was no waiting around, we were taken straight to our room for check in. Our room was quite sumptuous with a great view of some beautiful gardens - and a fab bathroo...

Fabulous

from Johnny&June
This is the best city hotel we have ever stayed in. This was the first part of our honeymoon and what a start! The breakfast is fit for a king. You will love this place. Do not look any further than here. Trust us.

Forget all the hipe you may hear about the Shangri-La, it is nice but not a patch on the MOKL. We stay there every time in KL and would not consider anything else. The property is set in an ideal location next to the KLCC shopping mall, and when night falls you are only a walk from the buzzing nightlife. If you want perfection for little money - this is as good as it comes. Definately the best in KL.

If you want to stay somewhere and have absolutely no reason to complain about anything, choose this hotel! The location, rooms and service leave nothing to be desired. This is Asian efficiency at its best. Best of all, I reserved well in advance and paid just $100 for a twin room. Indulge in some luxury - treat yourself to a break here!!

Wow

from kimij
walked in off the street for a one night stay and was offered a 'club' room for under £90 !! includes breakfast, asked if we would get a view of the towers??

OBVIOUSLY we were told!! The room was splendid !! bathroom unbelievable, such a fantastic stay with a breakfast on the club floor, consisting of anything you fancied! but the best bit was the view of the towers lit up at night, unfotgetable.

A Must Stay Place

from loobeloo
Stayed at the MO for only three nights (definitely not long enough!). As we were a family of 4, was offered a 2-bed apartment for a small supplement. Definitely well worth it! The kids absolutely loved it (so did their parents).

Swimming pool was stunning and service overall superb. Slightly disappointed with Lai Po Heen - dinner there did not live up to reputation, although have been told dim sum out of this world.

For the price of a budget hotel in Europe, it has to be seen to be believed!!!!

The place to stay!

So far the best hotel where my husband and I have stayed. We had a club room with breakfast buffet, high tea and happy hour. The food was fantastic and the service excellent. We really enjoyed our stay at the Mandarin Oriental and we highly recommend the place if you like luxe at a good price.

Mandarin Oriental - Superb!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks and as I travel a lot ...this must be one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in (for the price you pay...Uk sterling goes a long way). What more could you ask for than a hotel right next to the Petronas and KLCC shopping centre joined on to the hotel.

Fantastic pool on the 2nd floor to chill out overlooking KL skyline. Massage and Facials also very good value for hotel prices. Islamic Museum...highly recommended.

Can't wait to go back to KL and stay there again.

Superb top class hotel

Having stayed in this fabulous hotel in a Club Floor room i would agree that it is superb. The staff can't do enough for you and the spa is excellent. Food and drinks are expensive but plenty of places around the hotel for cheap drinks and food.

Highly recommended

Stayed for 4 nights at this lovely hotel. Impressive location in the shadow of the Petronas Towers, great (though expensive) shopping nearby in KLCC and a number of nice local bars / restraurants. Hotel rooms are large, nicely furnished (we stayed in one of the "regular" rooms). Staff are unfailingly friendly, and the hotel has excellent leisure facilities to unwind after a stressful days exploring. Hotel restaurants are a tad pricey, as are the drinks, but that is to be expected in a hotel of this calibre. There are plenty of cheaper local options and the Chinatown distrct is only a short hop on the metro system anyway. All in all, we had a wonderful time and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Mandarin Oriental: Excellent location and wonderful room

from ericrabbit
The Mandarin Oriental is a hiqh quality, luxurious hotel in a superb location right next to the Petronas twin towers. It is adjacent to the excellent KLCC shopping centre and overlooks the lovely KLCC park - a welcome expanse of green in the middle of the city. The reception area is beautiful, with chandeliers and antiques etc. I would recommend staying on the Club Floor. You have you own reception desk where you can check in and out more quickly and you get breakfast, afternoon tea and cocktails. Overall it is pretty good value - you can help yourself to as many drinks and snacks as you wish throughout the day (only alcholic ones between 5 and 7pm though!) It is also very peaceful and quiet in the club lounge and the views of the city are phenomenal. The room we stayed in was excellent. The air conditioning was quiet and the bathroom was stylishly designed. Service was prompt at all times and friendly, but not quite as good as the service at the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong (but that was truly exceptional) The highlight of our stay was taking a dip in the infinity pool overlooking the park and having a super lunch on the terrace. Overall the stay was immensely enjoyable and I would thoroughly recommend a stay at this hotel.
