... miles or so on to Rutland, a much bigger town hampered by major roadworks on Main Street. We reached our motel, the Highlander (the dearest and worst we've experienced so far). The family diner opposite did supply a splendid supper special of beef liver and bacon with mash n onions n gravy. Yummy, for me; less so for Steph, who went for a chicken stir-fry. Would have ordered grits, if we knew what they were!
A good day in pleasant sunshine. Probably freezing again ...
... So we organised everything, and I made a box full of presents that I planned to send home (since my suitcase is already at a bulge and we're only 2 weeks in).
We then decided to hit up the Rutland State Fair that had its opening night tonight, conveniently just down the road from where we were staying. Now for a country town fair, it was actually pretty fun. There were petting zoos, shop stalls, food stalls, rides; about the only ...
... bulk grapes, and nacho chips and dip for dinner (as an FYI, Aldi is predominately a buy-in-bulk store with pathetic range, so I couldn't even buy just a bottle of water - no wonder we don't have them back home!).
Now I'm not sure what Vermont consider a marathon, but Law & Order was still playing on the TV when we got home. So we watched some more while we set up our table with all of our goodies, before having an early night.
