A Day in the Gaslamp Quarter and San Diego Harbor
Oct 7, 2007 (17 photos)

Day 1, Sun, Oct 7, 2007 DH and I drove in separate cars to San Diego and checked into the Machester Grand Hyatt at the harbor. We had to drive separately because I had to get back home the next day, and DH had to stay another night. DH and I left home at about 10:30 a.m. in separate cars. We had to do this because he would be staying one more ni...

San Diego: Sea World
Mar 4, 2005

Day 1 (Fri, Mar 4, 2005) The kids and I drove to the Manchester Grand Hyatt to meet up with DH. He had left the day before to attend a board meeting. The hotel was great; it's right on the bay. The kids and I joined some of DH's colleagues for dinner at Sally's Seafood on the Water there at the hotel. It was a nice dinner, and everyone seemed to...

Beautiful Hotel, Beautifully Managed

from A TripAdvisor User on 2003-10-26
We landed at the Manchester Hyatt in San Diego because it was the location of our convention. We were delighted to learn that, even though it has enormous capacity, it doesn't feel industrial or have that creepy "conventiony" feeling. It is located next to a lovely waterfront shopping/dining area that is good for a bit of entertainment. The staff is well-trained and friendly; the pool area is gorgeous; the rooms are very clean and functional. Lucky you, if your convention is held at the Manchester Hyatt!

An Enjoyable Stay

from OnOurWay on 2003-10-26
We recently spent 4 nights at this Hyatt. My 3 year old son and I accompanied my husband who was attending a convention. The room was spotless, the view was lovely, and all the staff that we encountered were helpful and professional.

You can't go wrong.

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful hotel for one night on

September 27th. The lobby of this hotel is just beautiful, if I didn't

know better I would have thought we were in Europe. I booked our room

through the Hyatt website and got a better deal than anyone else. It

was easy.

The staff is very nice and attentive, just to give you an example we wanted to go to the Gaslamp district, but didn't want to walk. The doorman got us a Lincoln Town car for $5.00 same price as a cab. This is hotel is well worth it, you can't beat the location and it's unsurpass beauty.

Great !

Stayed at this hotel Sep '03. Great lobby, nice room, excellent views, lovely pool would definetly stay again and recommend to anyone. Staff were also very friendly and helpful.

Swanky with great views!

Wow, what a hotel! You walk into the massive lobby and you are teleported to a very classy hotel. Beautiful paintings throughout and massive high ceilings. We stayed in a room on the 30th floor that was mostly facing the city but did have a marina view. The room was quite small, king size bed, small desk with chair, nicer chair with glass table with lamp and magazines, small bathroom. Having a microfridge would have really been helpful as the room felt slightly disfunctional.

We stayed for two nights and were waken by trains several times both nights (even on the 30th floor!). I would recommend paying extra for the marina view for this reason.

Hotel had easy access to Seaport Village (follow the signs to the coffee shop on the 1st floor) and the outdoor pool and spa with view of Coronado were beautiful.

The hotel is VERY expensive (half a grapefruit cost $4.50!!!) so your best bet is to eat at Seaport Village or the many restaurants around the hotel. Seaport seems to shut down around 9 or 10 so you might have better luck at Horton Plaza or the Gaslamp district, all within walking distance.

We felt completely underdressed the whole time and that was slightly uncomfortable, but other than the swanky ritz factor the hotel was enjoyable.

Excellent choice for your stay in San Diego!

from A TripAdvisor User on 2003-08-28
My family recently spent a few days at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. I was extremely satisfied with most of the services at the hotel. Our room was the right size and very comfortable.

I would highly recommend this hotel since it is located close to the main San Diego attractions: Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Gas Lamp Quarters and Coronado Island.

There were certain details, I believe the hotel should improve on, but overall I highly recommend it. I will certainly stay there next time I visit San Diego later this year.

Don't recommend the valet parking, save yourself some time and hassle and use the self-parking option.

Manchester Grand Hyatt is Grand

We went to San Diego last weekend and stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. We found the accomodations to be clean and modern, and the staff was very very friendly. We will stay there when we return !

Luxury - with only 1 gripe

from A TripAdvisor User on 2003-07-20
My husband and I stayed there for a week for a conference (july 2003) that he was attending. I am not used to staying in such nice hotels so this was a real treat for me!

It has a great approach on the street however the entrance is currently under construction and you have to go in through the side entrance. Not a big issue for me, but I spoke with another guest who is obviously more used to this class of hotel and he was not very impressed.

The staff were very good at check-in and the bell service was good also.

The room was a good size and very clean.

My only gripe is that using the phone was a real drama. The instructions on using the phone was incorrect and getting calls through was often a hassle - especially to numbers outside the SD calling area.

We made several calls to the front desk for help with the phone and often they didn't know what they were doing themselves.

However overall it was an excellent stay!

Manchest Grand Hyatt What A View!!!!

from TRosel238 on 2003-07-07
This hotel is fabulous! The views from the upper floors are absolutely amazing! This hotel sits directly on San Diego Bay. From our window we could see all of the way across the bay and over Coronado Island to the Pacific Ocean. Parked directly across the bay was 2 aircraft carriers for you navy buffs. We could look out our window and watch cruise ships coming into harbor as well as Navy warships. Also, this hotel is downtown in a central location, so it is close to everything. Sea World is only a couple of miles as well as the zoo. Horton Plaza is within easy walking distance and there is a trolley stop across the street.

Great Location

from amtedrow on 2003-07-06
My husband and I stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt for 3 days and had a great time. There is a lot to see and do within walking distance.

The hotel sits in front of the Seaport Village - a cute area with lots of shops and a variety of restaurants. From the hotel, you can also walk along the harbor and walk to downtown and the Gaslamp Quarter. Our room had a great view of the harbor, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and we felt safe and comfortable.
