... Hosanna and the kids were supposed to start class. Hosanna and I both were a bit annoyed by this, as we have been paying for full sessions but not always getting them. This one was partly our doing though. I jumped on the back of Pak Ferry's scooter and we headed straight out to the Kantor Imigrasi to fetch my long-due visa and passport. ... with Mary would feel as though I was talking with a dense piece of hardwood. It’s as though she was educated in a thousand youth hostels and is now employing that sort of logic in her profession.

I think my main issue with Mary is her condescension toward the people of Manado that she tries to mask with her apparent philanthropy. She has lived in Manado for close to a year now, and is already familiar with most of the cultural nuances of the ...

... secure a cab wastes a lot of time, and is very frustrating.

Hosanna has the kids working on their homework and reviewing new vocabulary in our room as I write this. Lathan is showing some real progress, and although Esther has an extensive vocabulary, she needs to work a bit more on sentence structure. Overall I’m really pleased with the progress they have made in their pursuit of Indonesian language, and I hope the progress continues as they continue in the ...
