Kosciuszko Road Perisher Valley, New South Wales, Australia, 2624
These were the biggest and most beautiful caves I have been in. The stalactites and stalagmites were enormous. There were 4 caves which could be visited we managed two of them. The first had only recently been opened to the public and you could walk through at your own pace, ours had to be pretty quick to fit in the guided tour in the next cave and a swim in the thermal pool. The caves were quite different due to their age. I hope the photos show how wonderful they were.
... the way was the deserted gold rush town of Kiandra, which also had Australia's first ski field, and The masses of dead looking ghostly white trees.
We stayed in the national park at a campsite near Sawpit creek. It was very quiet and much colder than we packed for! But we were allowed to light a fire so we sat around it until we took to bed still in our warmest clothes.
The following day we set out to climb Mt Kosciuszko. We ...
... with 1000ft of ascent I felt suitably ashamed of my cheating! Still we had a chat while we stocked on 'mountain food’ and did each other the favour of getting a cheesy summit picture in before the rush hour started and a half dozen of the easy option chairlift crew came in.
Down was so much easier than up and aside from seeing some very unsuitably clad people it all passed without event. I hit the pub for a couple of pints and lunch ...
... The hotel at Thredbo is ok but not as the upscale as the Lonely Planet would have you believe. The armchairs are threadbare and showing the foam and wood below – really should get those fellas recovered. Still the bed is big and comfy which is always a plus.
Right an early night cos tomorrow I have to actually walk more than 300 yards!
Funniest sign seen today. Don’t be a Tosser! This is an anti littering campaign ...
... was bloody well hungry so had a substantial bacon, egg, toast n trimmings with fresh orange thinking quite naively this would be what i would be eating most days. Time for introductions with the gang.

... invited....party...tab.... very odd, so we made our excuses after one drink and left to see in the new year in Banjo's. New Years countdown is always a letdown for me, even anti climatic, and I am here to tell you that from Jobstown (not that I really know) to Jindabyne it's the exact same, watching drunkards snogging. So the three us headed up to our balcony to lay into the 'veuve cliquot', send $6 texts and people watch. Adaminaby - Kiandra - Cabramurra - Tumbrarumba New ...
Jindabyne, Australia danskgirlHi All, Here are some pictures from our recent weekend ski trip to Perisher Valley. After work, Friday evening, we hired a car and braved the 6 hour drive to the snowy mountains (aka the snowy hills). Despite a slight delay in our departure due to unforeseen circumstances* we made good time and arrived at Perisher at 01:30 in the morning. We stayed in the main hotel in Perisher Valley called, ahem, The Perisher Valley ...
Perisher Valley, New South Wales, Australia jodal... and wit of the lively landlord. Sorted, but time was ticking, so in true Benny Hill fashion we tucked the bikes round the back of the pub, slung our bags in the room and legged it down to the local tavern for a feed - where we ordered and paid just in the nick of time to secure a meal. 8pm again! By the time we'd sunk another cheeky the place was empty and ready to close for the night. This is where ...
Corryong, Victoria, Australia scottwoz... boarding. I was quite surprised that after 2 hours I had picked up enough knowledge to head down a blue run with the pro's! Although maybe a green run should have been my first choice as I did a massive stack landing right on my tail bone!! After 6 hours of falling over, screaming in agony and swearing I, and the rest, had had enough for one day so retired back to the lodge. It took a while to warm up and get dry, but ...
Thredbo, Australia mattmcshane... on a public holiday, is terribly anglophile and extremely British. Not offering a choice of teas with our mound of sandwiches and cakes is an unforgivable offence. Extremely disappointing. Also the New York style smoking restrictions are driving us wild, so we decamp to a rather pleasant alley just off the main street - Collins street. After an entertaining few hours with Pauli, whose hypochondria and melancholia remain as overwhelming as ever, we retreat to bed for an early night ...
