      A day in Sulmona

It was raining today and really cold so we took in the local museum full of Roman antiquities found in recent local excavations, it was small but still astounding that it was over 2000 years ago and they were so civilised. We had a turn up and down the Corso and then went for lunch at the highly anticipated Da Gino, it is only open for lunch and didn't disappoint. We took a little more care than yesterday ...

      Sulmona and Pacentro

We started off with a lovely buffet of Marta's home grown prosciutto, cakes, fruit, and home made cheeses, all delicious and too much! It was market day in Sulmona, the square was transformed by the massive trucks that travel to every town selling their wares, they are a cheery and interesting addition to visit. We caught the bus 15 minutes to Pacentro, officially one of the most beautiful towns in Italy, and famously known by the locals as being the place ...

For a little variety and to remind ourselves of why we left the cold for winter we caught the 3.5hr train trip through Tivoli to an old country town Sulmona, the birth place of Ovid the Roman Poet. Our B&B, il Marchese del Grillo, is newly rebuilt and with a generous hostess Marta who made us very welcome. Armed with maps and directions we walked around the 13th C town with narrow streets and charmingly old views all around. Snowmelt was dripping ...

... 160;The first hour of the trip saw castles interspersed with modern buildings, though these quickly gave way to hills, fields, and small villages.  A quick stop for the kids to have snack and the adults to grab a cappuccino & we were on our way again, headed to our initial location, L'Ape e L'Orso. Inside the National Park d'Abruzzo, there is an agroturismo known as L'Ape e L'Orso (the bee and the bear).  This place lived up to its name! ...

... much to do for nightlife. Yet thats what made the trip wonderful because I often found myself on a massive beach with maybe only one or two more people on the entire thing with me! So considering the craziness and noise of my normal domicile in Rome, this was certainly an awesome experience.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the pictures. GOD BLESS!
