... Smoolny Cathedral (pronounced small-knee) which was built by the Tsar Elizabeth I as a nunnery. It is not active today but is used a classical music concert hall. It is
baroque style and luckily did not suffer any destruction during the soviet religious persecution.

We had a lengthy discussion with the very helpful shop assistants, and we came to the conclusion that they do not have cupboard dehumidifiers in Russia – deodourisers only. We woke up this morning, all in one piece. As night had fallen, our campsite had taken on a decidedly spooky vibe. The forest was wet, so there were drippy noises, and there were mysterious transient smells. Lana was sure she saw a man and a dog in the trees. This deciduous forest is amazingly dense.
