Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom nic_dani_geers... lived there. Although some people passed along it going about their business it felt like a dead zone (don't worry mom, we were very safe!). I am really glad we did the walk.

Then for something completely different we did a tour of the City Hall. Believe it or not it is a hot ticket that you have to sign up for as it just opened up after renovations and if you only get there 15 mins before a tour time you have to wait and sign up for the next tour!! It was free and ...
Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom gorchuk... around the various areas of Belfast and explain artworks, areas, and oh yeah, the big feckin wall that divides the city. Yup that's right, parts of Belfast are divided into areas, Protestant, and Catholic - and when i saw wall, i mean a big 35 foot wall in places with gates that shut each night to keep areas and people divided and in theory safe from each other.

We got the chance to sign the peace wall, which has been signed by thousands of ...
Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom bronandjosh09... like I have somehow cheated and not gotten the real experience since it hasn't been raining the entire time. But I am not opposed to the sunshine - not one bit!
After that, we continued up to the Giant's Causeway - volcanic balast columns jutting out of the sea on the Northern coastline. They were so much more impressive and expansive than I expected them to be. Some were super tall and others were just like stepping stones, but all perfectly hexigonal-shaped columns, like ...
Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom h_hurst... After the ancient people abandoned the site, it became a horse racing track and had been plowed up for crops. As the sign at the entrance commented, "it's amazing archaeologists had anything to work with at all, given all the uses of the site since it's inception". We drove on to Belfast for a quick tour of the city and then decided on our way to the northern coast to take the coastal route to the east.
Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom jeffnsaraSorry I haven't updated in awhile, but I've finally been somewhere new! I went up to Belfast for two days on the start of my holiday and it was really interesting. I stayed in a small hostel that was really nice, and the first day I went on a black taxi tour to see the west side of Belfast, where most of the Troubles took place. We saw Protestant and Catholic murals that had been painted depicting each sides' story of what has happened the past 30 years in ...

Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom troywilkinson... UK, and i have landed a free trip to the US of A courtesy of Trek America. I leave on Sunday and get to NYC on Monday after my usual stop in London to blag a night on a sofa from Jodi. Then it the tourist trap for a few days and the trek starts on the 27th across the south via Washington, New Orleans, Tennesse, Mexico, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, L.A. plus numerous other stops along the way. No idea of how many chances i will get to update but i will do my best Later Andy
