FIJI TIME!!!

... worried at first because it seemed too resort-like when our intention had been to seek out the true backpacker accomadations, meet the local people and spend time with fellow travelers. Turns out that loads of backpackers stay there; we met some amazing people (yay, Del and Lisa!) who have truly become great friends of ours in the short while since we met.

After Walu, we took the boat the Waya Lai Lai, another beautiful resort that ...

... to finish filling out! Tomorrow is Halloween, they don't celebrate here, but we are going to Mystery Island. It is supposed to be a boat tour, lunch, snorkeling, and getting the island to ourselves.... nice! Only bad part is my dive camera isn't working... not sure what happened.... I am pretty disappointed that I won't get to take any underwater pictures. Maybe I will figure out how to fix it on the bus...
So long Vanuatu...:(

... last few weeks in Vanuatu. They were some of the best days. We met up with Frank on Menja and were finally able to do some diving, which was wonderful.
Sorry for the short update, there's just too much to say and I'm running out of internet time. I will try to get myself more organized and update everyone properly in Hawaii. Just wanted to say, I'm doing great and I'm going to HI!
Love you, Lindsey

... it was dark. we also did a day sailing trip where we went to the island where tom hanks film castaway was filmed. then we visited a village and took part in a kava ceremony.
we than spent our last week at the smugglers cove resort. whilst there we hired a car for two days so that we could see other parts of the island. This was great fun but we had to drive carefully as the roads are full of pot holes etc.

Sun, sea, sand and snorkelling

... done. Afterwards we returned our snorkelling gear and checked out. We had a tasty lunch and then waited on the beach for our boat back to the mainland. We saw the local Fijian rugby team leave for a match on another island, and at least 30 of them were on such a tiny boat it nearly sank. One guy fell off and they all laughed and sailed off. He had to swim after them! Our boat came and it was a bumpy trip back to Nadi, where I had fried fish for dinner.

The next morning ...

The Tropical Awegasm!

... it's a bit of a guessing game! Kuata island was great. When we arrived on Monday we could go on a village visit trip on a nearby island which was really interesting. We got a tiny boat (which was a bit like a tin can!) there. These boats also pick us up from the big yellow boat and take us to the islands. I loved these boat rides, they're always quite rocky and 9 times out of 10 you get wet, but they're great fun! In the evening we played musical ...

... land once again.

i had to come to Fiji anyways in order to switch planes for my flight to LA, so why not make a small mini-vacation out of it while i'm there? why not!

i'm actually really excited for my 5 day stay here. i've booked a 4 day stay at a small eco-resort on a teeny island in the Yasawa Island chain which is northwest of Viti Levu, the biggest island in Fiji (which is where Nadi and the captial Suva are located). the airport of Nadi--which is the ...

Diving in Fiji

... Kini's to look for us as they were wondering what had happened to us. Lucky for us because just then our rudder broke and we all had to climb into the other boat leaving just the captain and a dive instructor to try steer the original boat back to Mana island. After an epic morning we finally arrived back to the resort and we got some welcome. Needless to say myself and Alan were burnt to a crisp despite the layers of sun cream we had applied. We were pretty ...

BULA from Fiji!!!!!!!

... all over your uneducated muffin of adventure and welcome you to Dave's invaluable travelling hints and tips! 1) Grab a handline and go fishing. Imagine a little boat set in a mill pond sea with a fat sun sizzling into the horizon while you hook a myriad of multi-coloured fish (well I didn't actually catch any myself but I definitely contributed by encouraging the fish to bite!) 2) Talk to the locals. Catch a Fijian unawares and without ...

Rain rain go away!

... survived as you can tell to drink another round of Fiji bitter. The rains have at least not caused any flooding in Nadi. We were shown numerous times how high the water level had reached during last week's floods. Nadi town itself was still reeling from the effects. A lot of shops were closed because all their stuff were destroyed in the floods. The ones who could afford it had started renovating. But the whole town shuts down ...
