To São Paulo

Finally I arrived at São Paulo Guarulhos airport after a tiring flight in a slightly uncomfortable plane without a lot of sleeping. After getting my luggage and going through customs I took a cab to Hotel Royal Maksoud in São Paulo behind Avenida Paulista. Since I was tired I decided only to go out to get some money and not do much as the next day I was to have my first meetings. I went to the bank machine and to my surprise the bankcard from work wasnt working and I didnt have enough for the...

... 8221; is circling my brain like a greyhound - apologies). Instead, you feel, as Lopez feels, the compassion for this tortured soul, whose ability to enjoy and nurture his unique gift is being taken away by his own brain. And then you equally feel the discomfort – the “otherness” of this man, how intimidating it can be to feel as though any second you will say or do the wrong thing and not only will you not be politically correct (an everpresent ...

"A fine place to travel through"

Sao Paulo is a bit rubbish. That's no huge surprise- even Brazillians of pretty much every other town will tell you that.

Our travelling went okay. Ferry from ilha grande was fine. And then our bus from Angra to SP was over an hour late in arriving. At that point we were very glad we hadn't gone for an overnight bus with tight connection in SP. But we took the opportunity to sample more local pasties- chicken good, meat okay, cheese ...

Big city stop

... one day on the bus and booked for one night here. The city did loomed on the horizon like some post apocalyptic nightmare from bus, complete concrete jungle with enormous urban sprawl of over 20 million souls all making this awful vision of a place their home. Of course it looked especially bad as we'd spent time in a town firmly planted in the 1700's. This was like fast forward to a futuristic Sci Fi film where everybody was living from postcard ...

Sao Paulo

... Stewart-like massive breakfast feast and then headed out to the National Football museum underneath a stadium in Sao Paulo. While I'm no fan, it was a great museum that told Brazil's history through the eyes of a football. After a great lunch at a Lebanese place, the Dagir's dropped me off at the airport and we said our goodbye's with lots of hugs and more and more photos. I wish I could have said the flight back was uneventful. As soon as I sat in my seat, the woman ...

Sao Paulo, ashes Wednesday

... were opens and we only saw hookers around. Not a single decent bar, nothing at all. Was that the brilliant night of Sao Paulo? This guy convinced us to take a taxi to a remote a place, apparently where the karnival had taken place. *******! There was nothing going on there, you could see there had been some action the ...

Chapter 12: Soccer Game and the Zoo.

... and just bounced away. So funny. Then the Paraguayan team kept getting hurt, every four minutes one would be lying on the ground, and the golf cart had to come get quite a few of them. The thing is, nothing really bad ever happened, they were just wussy. Try playing rugby. Anyway, we shot SO MANY TIMES and everyone was freaking out because nothing had gone in, but like less than a minute before the end of the game, we scored. Ironically I only just caught it because ...

21st Birthday, Parati, and PICTURES!

... Leon, and the Beatles. Before the band came on, I requested Aerosmith, Dream on. We all know what song means to me. Apples, anyone? The band sang Parabens para voce, the Brazilian happy birthday song to me, which was super nice. I ended the band's set by singing My Girl at 2 AM. I loved the band. 3) As my birthday approached, the manager of the bar told me I could have a free drink. I asked for cacaca, the local liquor ...
