... if you're going to feed them, pretty cool! After a hard day of exploring and swimming we stumbled upon a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop. Now ice cream is a real treat for us because our freezer on the boat won't keep ice cream frozen, so it's usually months between this type of treat. Tom being the ice cream connoisseur led the way and found the waffle cones with 2 scoops were roughly the size of a 5 litre bucket. So after 2 hours of slurping ice cream we each realised that ...
Nassau, Bahamas bellavita... due to this influence, but not now! Spanish Wells has a thriving seafood industry with a strong industrial base and does not rely on tourism for its economy. Agriculture plays a minor role - hills of Russell Island contribute oranges and tangerines and local gardens grow tomatoes, lemons, cucumbers and pineapples. The town is crime free, you can walk anywhere day or ...
SPANISH WELLS, Bahamas takinbetz... island are so friendly and they are working very hard to make their settlement an important stop for cruisers on their way down and back from Georgetown. Lorraine Rolle proprietor of Lorraine's has done an outstanding job of meeting the cruisers needs for internet services and her food is superb, her baby is adorable and she is really, really a sweetheart! The Rockside Laundry speaks for ...
BIG MAJOR CAY, Bahamas takinbetz... probably because their dinghies are 20' open fishermen! After lunch we dinghied to the Park Ranger's building to check in. Moorings are $15/night for our size boat and we can stay as long as we like. Saturday night is happy hour and Sunday they are having an Easter dinner on the beach with smoked turkey and ham - boats sign up and list what they want to bring. That's probably the ...
WARDERICK Wells CAY, Bahamas takinbetz... our own meals mostly, using fresh fish (Nassau grouper and trigger fish) that we bought from the locals. We also tried some conch fritters at a restaurant which were yum. Last night we attended the local fish fry, a big bbq party for the local community, and bumped into many fellow vacationers (mostly American) that we had met earlier in the week- its a small town and all that. Now we are back in Nassau until Sunday when we fly to Panama. Lots of love xxx
Nassau, New Providence Island, Bahamas markandchar... seemed to be rolling uncomfortably as they passed us. Dave had earlier made a comment that someone has to be "the fish in the bucket" this time it was us! Once through the Whale Channel we entered the Loggerhead Channel a marked channel that was now abandoned. Disney had built a resort stop at the north end of Great Guana Cay but had abandoned it as the cruise ships too often had trouble getting through the channel. We soon ...
Great Guana Cay, Bahamas darborn... and sing. It was a lot of fun and one of the faculty's five year old son sang a song in his sailor outfit. My heart about melted! He was so precious. I ended the night introducing my roommate to the wonderful comedian, Mr. Katt Williams. Tonight is the first night our clocks don't move forward so I'm excited about sleeping a little longer. Miss you all! (Mrs. Williams, please send me your email address to cavaughan@semesteratsea.net so I can write you back!)
Atlantic Ocean, Florida, Bahamas claudiv... often as it is extremely relaxing, does not take much time (3 days) and is very close to home. Everything you could possibly need is onboard the ship, and we were fortunate enough to have excellent (hot) weather all 3 days...... and most importantly - no hurricanes.
Nassau, New Providence Island, Bahamas a3dennert... the airport was easy and the taxi drivers were pushy but not overly so, just remember to always go to the taxi que line, and dont just go with the guy standing away from the others even if his price is cheaper. always make sure your cab has a meter and make sure you driver turns it on. if there is no meter negotiate a price BEFORE you leave, trust me, this will aleviate avoidable hassle once you reach your distination. and if the driver askes for more than you ...
Nassau, New Providence Island, Bahamas jmb021... out of their dresses into swimwear. After a few minutes of interesting conversation with Brenda and the ladies just yards away looking onwards, we became completely distratced from going to the Babbling Brooke. Also, we realized that the sun had began to set and we were losing light. "Let's go over here and check out these things hanging from the trees," Mungo said reminding me that we didn't have much time ...
