Went on the search for some swimmers and lucky us! Everything was still on sale!! So all of the already pretty cheap clothing compared to home was even cheaper! Probably going to spend most of my time here at the shops. That's why I didn't bring many clothes with me.

99% sure this is the shopping centre. It was the Shangri-La mall anyway.

Highly recommended. Rooms are huge & spotless, staff are extremely pleasant. and food is second to none. I was working nightshift, so the breakfast buffet was my main meal of the day, and it left nothing to the imagination!

Good BUT theres Some SERIOUS BAD points

we stayed in hotel for 2 days. The Hotel is good...clean, nice modern facility...I LOVE the FOOD so much specially the room service, complete with complementary bread, water and fresh and on time.

what i find bad that i notice is when we just arrive

    1. after we paid for 2 days stay. we were handled the card key for the room. and thats thank you at all she started doing other things (knowing its not busy when we arrive its 6pm already) then she said in sarcastic way you can go to your room now(maybe she think why were still there) ofcourse we need someone to guide as where our room i know where it is located? even i know what floor theres still someone who should assist us. So i also sarcastically ask her will someone assist us?? thats the time she only called for another staff.

    2. the tub, we just use it like an hour because when we are using it we heard noises like its leaking and yes it is leaking(tho small amount of leak only) u can fill up the tub but it will be empty after a while. we try to fone them about it and a staff came to check he said theres no leak, how will he knows he didnt even fill the tub so he can see for himself it leaks?. and he even told my fiance its just the sound of faucet filling up water. so well dissapointed we just use shower.

    3. the bottle of shampoo is not enough for two what more long-haired like me.

    4. i dnt like much on what served on breakfast i can name two..prok b-b-q and rice, then some breads

    5. some NOSEY staff (just they look on you from head to toe, specially if your white. make you more conscious and uncomfy)

    good points:

    1. polite ROOM SERVICE STAFF that always bring up our lunch and dinner

    2. clean room, comfy bed, good size for couple/honeymooners like us who wnat not that too biggy not too small space.

    3. nice airconditioning

    4. no noise

    5. in middle of shopping malls, convenient, and secure

    6. great for honeymooners who want to stay in hotel in Manila

Great hotel...why isn't it listed on tripadvisor?

I'm not sure why the Shangri-La isn't listed, maybe I'm blind and can't find it here, even after a search...

It's a beautiful hotel, and the rooms are huge. The location cannot be beat, across the street from a huge shopping mall complex (Ayala). The front desk greets you by name when you call them. There's a separate bathtub and shower. Our room has a king bed and a sitting area with a couch, table, as well as a large desk for business. TV is average (not like those plasma screens in Hong Kong!). Free shoe shine, and they were FAST...but internet is approx $16 us per day. No free breakfast, as far as I can tell (only 1st night so far). Absolutely gorgeous reception/lobby area. Nicely decorated...modern furniture. I think the room rate was $189/night, us. Probaby high for Manila standards, but certainly reasonable for Shangri-La standards. Bananas and mangoes in our room on arrival. Complementary bottled water, coffee/maker. Very large rooms, compared to the Hong Kong Sheraton (just left there..had to fly the United non-direct service). Fax machine in the room, but no DVD player...apparently, it's 2700pesos to rent one per day, which I think works out to $40+ u.s! I can BUY one in the states for that much! Anyway, happy to be here, enjoying the hotel.

    Thief in the night

I stay at this 5 star hotel expecting the best. i was treated with in differents.

i ask for not smoking room and was giving a smoking but was change next day with alot of verbal communications from me. the smoking room lights did not work so repairman was call to fix this. Next day i was upgraded to deluxe room now with complimentary laundry, paper, massage service, fruit plate in the room and 10 % off food and drinks and also 30 % off business service. Now problems started with this was told to me with written contract that was not forward to rest of staff at hotel. Everyday i had to call to inform where my paper and please sent up the fruit. the free breakfast was charge to bill and then i had show contract to remove it. the 10 % off food and drink was not done because they said i must charge to room . i show them reciepts and they said they could not do anything . at time i purchase they said they could give me discount until i left. the free massage was charge in error they said but at final bill they said i must pay because there was mistake on orginal contract. There is no free massage.Make up the room was request by me everyday to be done between 7 am to 12 pm . The make up of the room happen about 4pm or later in the day.If i complain they come earlier. The facilities was never explain to me . If you like to search as i did you could find out yourself. The rate of the room change because they said the local currency change. As whole the experience was one i rather not endure again . 5 star hotel i expect more

I loved this hotel. It was the BEST hotel I've ever stayed at, service was unparallel. I consider that quite a complement, since I'm from the US. I would def stay again. BEAUTIFUL.. too bad I didn't EVEN get to see the pool..

    Sheer Luxury

One of the best, if not the best hotel I stay in on my travels to numerous destinations for both work and holidays.

The hotel offers luxury at affordable prices in a central location for travel in and around Manila.

Rooms are amazing, service is excellent and catering is just the best.

Be prepared for tight security which is even more obvious since 911 for anyone entering the hotel including bag searches and sniffer dogs checking out luggage.

One word of advice. Check bill before handing over credit card. Accuracy is not always guaranteed.

    My experience was WONDERFUL!

I stayed here for two nights - Feb. 4th-6th - and all I can say - is that this is thee BEST hotel in Manila. My parents have stayed at the Manila Peninsula before for 2 weeks - and they commented that Shangri-la is nicer!!! (Note: they ended up staying a week longer than I) The service is outstanding, the accomodations - are SUPERB. I had an aromatherapy massage and "thalgo" facial - and they were both great! There is a TV, shower, bathtub w/ jacuzzi jets, and a toilet - IN the massage room. It's very convenient, and really well designed. The rooms are well designed too - I was impressed - and I travel a lot! The gym is excellent, and the pool is spacious, large and serene. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling on vacation to the Philippines (use the local rate if you have family there), and also if you are from the States and are traveling on business. If you have high standards like I do for hotels, then I beg you to stay here! You do not want to be miserable on your trip to Manila. The price is reasonable for U.S. standards - and they do their best there to make you feel at home, and very comfortable. There are tons of great restaurants - try Circles brunch or dinner buffet, and also dinner at Red. This hotel is also walking distance to the Greenbelt shopping area, Landmark, and Glorietta malls. No other hotel can beat this. Lastly, I felt very safe here. They have a lot of security at this hotel - inside, and outside before you enter the hotel.

    Won't be disappointed

    Stayed in January 2005

the hotel was above our expecations. I have not been back to vist in over 15 years and so I was hesitant to stay at any hotel that was not at least rated a 5 star. But as all know, sometimes a 5 star is not a 5 star.

I was very pleased and enjoyed ALL the hotel amenities, including the spa, exerxice room, massage(s), pool, etc. Staff were also very helpful and accomodating.

Food at the buffett was also excellent. The only thing is that I would not book any tour thru the hotel. The same tour that my family member took, cost almost double what the other parties paid, who were at a different Makati hotel, but were on the same tour bus.

    Als0- laundry cost was outrageous,

Other than that, I would highly recommend to anyone

    Beautiful Place!

We were there for 2 wks in July & had a wonderful time.Beautiful, clean, classy place! Can't wait for next years vacation........

    Fabulous Hotel

Totally enjoyed our stay there! Very clean and tastefully decorated. Comparable to, or even better than some U.S. four star hotels at less than half the price. The room was huge and the bed is bigger than a king size bed. Bathroom is magnificent, with a separate shower and tub. Wide selection (American, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino) at the breakfast buffet. Perfect place to pamper yourself......have a massage, manicure, pedicure, and more. Shopping and restaurants just across the street. Stayed there last year, going back this year.

... a couple hundred yards away from shore and never got further than knee deep. At one point very far out we were actually at a point where the water would just barely flow over the sandbar. Insert walking on water photos. Back at Lagen we took a hike into the jungle, where bird watching was ideal. We saw no birds, the hike took us on a steep climb up and the ocean breeze was unable to cool us. It was pretty neat but I was relieved to be able to dip my toes back into the ocean ...
