0522 The Coolest Mini-country in the World (San Marino 001, 09B -147) San Marino, September 20, 2009 Day 256: 5 hours, 5.6 kms Backtrack a day… On my second day in Rimini, I got up early and hurried out to grab a bus to the Nation of San Marino. I’m particularly excited about my 69th country because this country is so small that I could literally explore and parkbench every town in the nation in a day or two. There is still a lot of repair work happening and also a lot of buildings left abandoned with severe damage. We head to a small village in the alps called Santo Stefano di Sessanio. Quite a cool morning as we walked up to the first fort. This was ...

... lot of the time and having a lot of experience driving a lot on the "wrong side of the road"! Also on this leg of the trip we had some long travel distances and some very narrow windy roads and it would be good having 2 drivers. A planned was hatched that Erwin would drive to another office near the train station ( where we had picked up a rent a car a few years before) and we would see if they would sign him in. We eventually found the office and just before ...

It is nearly dark when we finally disembark. Charly and K-H try try best to lose me as we head out onto the autostrada. Then it's a blast north, way outside my comfort zone. I have done very little mileage after dark in Europe and find it very ...
