A real seaside day. Morning mists as we rose after our wet previous evening to breakfast standing up before setting off along the coast. Morning coffee at Chatelaillon-Plage with local dancing in regional costume to accordions, hurdy gerdys, flutes; then on towards La Rochelle with lunch overlooking the sea as ...

ping pong, right after we had played basketball with some students in
the college, that he likes kids because they ...

... called Shell Beach and when I got to that side of the island, I
quickly found out why. There was a mound at least about a foot and
half to 2 feet high of washed up shells all along the length of the
    beach, it was incredible.

So a little more about the island,
there are only about 400 inhabitants year round, once the kids get to
a certain age, they have to go ...

A bit of a dampener on our wedding anniversary

... process to commence (although even the following morning our coats still felt a little damp around the edges!) to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary before heading back to our bed for the night.

From what we saw this would have and should have been a city well worthy of a longer visit and maybe next time we will try to do so in the warmer, dryer, summer months and hope that we do not have to weather another poor day.
