Historical Traveler Reviews Majestic Hotel Fira
U.S. Single Girls Love Santorini
"Love the Majestic!" report two single girls from the U.S. We were in Athens prior to arriving in Santorini. This was the highlight of our vacation! We came to Santorini looking for relaxation and fun, and the Majestic accommodated us. Breakfast: great service and food that was included in our rate; a great way to start our day! Pool: area was excellent - very well-kept; view of the sea was breathtaking; the cabana bar staff provided everythinig we needed with a smile! Reception Desk: talk about problem solvers! The main guy totally went out of his way when we had requests. He came through for us every time; his service was very much appreciated! Bar: we ended every night in Santorini with a drink (or 2 or 3!) at the bar. Wonderful service and conversation with the bartender. If you have problems sleeping, try the Planter's Punch! It definitely works. Good times!!!!!!!! Overall, these two single women found the service to be some of the best we have ever encountered (and we've traveled a lot!) Stay here! Thanks, Majestic Staff!
Outside the hotel: a taxi into Fira costs 5 Euros; well worth the expense for a wonderful day of shopping and restaurants filled with terrace sunset views. Food was excellent as was the wine! The service everywhere was unlike anything in the U.S. - it was so much better!!!! We will definitely return to Greece for another holiday.
Nightmare in Santorini
We arrived at this hotel on our honeymoon and were very dissappointed. We expected a 5 star hotel and got something more like a 2 star hotel. The rooms were very ugly and had a nasty chemical smell. They showed us other rooms but they were all the same. The hotel staff were extremely rude and would not let us get out of our booking. We were so unhappy that we left and got a different hotel even though we paid for this one.
Whatever you do, DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!
This was truly the highlight of our honeymoon after first staying in Athens and in Crete.
Room was a lot larger than we expected with a bed in upper loft, and clean. Bathroom had Jacuzzi/jets tub. The staff/service was excellent (they were friendly, helpful, expedient, booked tour for us and mailed our postcards for us). When we requested a taxi via the hotel, the rates were exactly what we expected to pay. Breakfast was good. There was a lovely pool, and shops and restaurants are within walking distance.
I would suggest requesting a room with a ocean view - ours faced the countryside (we're not particularly high-maintenance tourists).
After searching internet for a luxury hotel in Santorini, I found Majestic Hotel, a new 5* hotel. When we arrived at the hotel with my husband, we noticed that the hotel was on the main road, with no view at all. The room was very small and dirty and full of flies (flying insects all over the place). After complaining about this to the hotel staff, they used aerosol for killing the flies and then the room became full of dead insects (we had to complain again to clean the room). The whole story was repeated every day and the room smelt bad due to the sprays. Although we complained, nobody apologized or suggested to change the room. The staff was unfriendly. I had the worst vacations of my life in Santorini in this hotel!
Not bad at all
My wife and I stayed here on our Honeymoon, in Early June 2005. As a new hotel, it had literally opened one week before our arrival. There were definitely advantages and disadvantages to this.
On the positive side, we were treated like royalty by everyone except one of the front desk guys (there were only 5 other guests at this large Hotel), we were the first ones to stay in our room (on the smallish side, but with nice decor, high quality furnishings, big balcony, and a nice bathroom).
On the negative side, there were still some service problems. One of the front desk guys was not too pleasant. When we needed to mail some post cards, he sent us into town, instead of mailing them for us. They did not yet have room service menus, work was still done on the property, etc...
However, everything was clean, well decorated, with a great restaurant and buffet breakfast. The pool was wonderful, as was the caldera view on the other side.
In summary, a clean, modern, hotel, and a great value. Definitely not world class, but great for the area.
We stayed at Majestic for 5 nights in September. Between my family, we had a total of 4 rooms. All were first floor rooms and very similar in size/layout with modern amenities. All had nice sized balconies overlooking the caldera and lovely bathrooms with (bless them!) full sized shower curtains and very nice toiletries. The rooms aren't huge, but certainly adequate in size and beds were comfortable.
The service was excellent while we were there from the cleaning staff, to the front desk (excellent restaurant recommendations), to folks at the bar and pool area.
The pool is lovely - very large and there are actually 3 pools including one for children. Lots of nice chaizes for laying out and relaxing. It doesn't overlook the caldera, but the view out towards the sea on the other side is lovely as well.
Breakfast was a very nice buffet; we also had good, simple lunches by the pool and an excellent dinner at the tiny restaurant one night.
I was concerned that the hotel would be out of the way, but it's a 10 minute (max) stroll to the middle of Fira and it has the advantage of being out of the line of the cruise boat tourists.
Do note, this is not a "typical" Santorini hotel with cave-like rooms, built up the side of the cliff. You'll be disappointed if that's what you're expecting. However, the facilities are very modern, very child friendly (unlike lots in the area) and perfectly suitable for anyone with mobililty problems. If you're looking for a very small, intimate and romantic hotel, this is not for you. But if you want a lovely, modern, well run, upscale hotel, I'd highly recommend The Majestic.
Not so bad
I agree with the previous reviewer. The majestic doesn't look so majestic. The pictures on the website is a little misleading because it shows the pool and it looks like the pool is right off a clifff but behind hte pool are local houses and donkeys and ugly grass. Other than that the hotel wasn't too bad.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walking distance to Fira town (where the hotels/restaurants/stores are that are on the cliff). It is definitely not a bad walk but the first day we did kind of wished that we got a hotel that is on the cliff where it has a very breathtaking view. But then the majestic is not bad for its price.
Hotel services were ok. We preferred to have a room on the second floor but the stupidest thing is that they don't have queen size beds on the second floor and only on the first floor (maybe it was just that day). So we had to put our twin beds together. They also don't have free hotel/airport services so we have to pay for our taxi rides. They do have free internet usage though. The hotel was also lenient on checking out late. We checked out as late as 5:30 since our flight out wasn't until 7.
THe hotel pool was nice. We laid by the pool the first and last day. Although I didn't use it, there were showers beside the pool if you need.
Anywho, if you don't mind that hte hotel is not right on the cilff, the hotel is recommended. It is very clean and everythign is new. The designs in the htel are modern. I would recommend it.
The Majestic Hotel not so Majestic
After looking at the internet at luxury hotels in Santorini I saw the Majestic Hotel, a new hotel and the only 5 star on the Island. When we arrived there we noticed there is no view. The service was apalling. The Reception Manager wasn't very pleasant and we had requested a double room and was given a small room with 2 single beds. My husband was ready to hop on the next plane OUT of Santorini. Luckily I convinced him to look at another hotel at Oia and we stayed 4 nights at Katikies. Now that's Santorini.

Travel Blogs from Fira
Here is a final swing at sharing my journey through Greece. Just one day left here so this is the last blog on my Greek Island adventures. A very short 20 min plane ride from Athens, landed us on one of the more famous islands in the Aegean sea, idyllic Santorini. Even though Athens was great to visit, a little sigh of relief came out of me …
... with nowhere to sit.
Down to the beach we went with our calzones in a box, diet cokes in a bag and in need of a spot to eat. We found a place right along the beach where bleachers of a sort had been built along a sea wall and had a picnic by the sea. We walked out without a napkin between us and no plastic silverware. The calzones were HUGE and needed to be cut, so I tore them in half and lunch began. They were fantastic. The dough was handmade and ...
... I made it a ritual to give the first guy every morning my extra croissant we have become fast friends and I have a free donkey ride should I so desire. I don’t.
Some days I spent the balance of the morning at one of the beaches. They aren’t quite as pretty or well maintained as Mykonos but the red stone beach or any of the black lava stone beaches are all pretty in their own more rugged, Santorini way. On days that I wasn’t in ...
The Exquisite Beauty of Santorini
This remarkable island is the remnant of the rim of a volcanic caldera, mush of which was blasted away by a huge eruption in 1600 BC. The bay enclosed by the crescent is nearly 1300 feet deep. We visited villages located on the caldera rim, about, 1000 feet above the ...
... We continued walking through the little villages of Imerovigli and Firostefani, and Poopi Kakis ran off somewhere and we didn't see him after that. The wind was very strong and we were growing weary of walking at that stage - it had been three hours! We finally arrived in Fira and found a place to have breakfast. Dan got some fruit salad with real Greek yoghurt, which was delicious :) We found the bus stop and got the bus back to Oia.
We went to a cafe in the afternoon. We went ...
