          Packing day today........not happy!

But it's also an opportunity to think about all the amazing things we’ve done, and incredible places we have been. At breakfast this morning we talked about the different highlights for each of us so far; Anna’s was her swim in Rhodes, Rex’s was Santorini followed closely by Venice, Philip’s was Valetta the capital of Malta, mine was Ephesus followed closely by Split, Montenegro, Olympia and Rhodes, and ...

... Selene’s where our artists of food could not understand why anyone would do this!! We also learned that we drink Ouzo completely differently. Ouzo here is served in a water glass, with ice cubes and often watered down with water. This is not an aperitif but a drink that enjoyed with your meal, specifically fish. Who knew?! We also learned that the leaves in the Greek Salads are not to be removed, they are the leaves of the caper and are quite tasty!

Even though Santorini is a tourist island and this is technically still the high season, the food is pretty cheap – 500ml Mythos beer ice-cold from the supermarket is about 1.20 euro!

The next day we caught the mini-bus up the mountain to the ancient town of Thira. After we changed vehicles mid-way ...

... Claire and I had a nice walk around Skaros Rock, which was just extraordinary (I’m running out of synonyms for amazing). Skaros Rock was the perfect way to end our Santorini tour.

Pros: Santorini is a paradise for hikers, ATV enthusiasts, beach-goers… well everyone, it is an absolute paradise for everyone. We were fortunate enough to stay at Smaragdi Hotel, rated amongst the highest hotels on the island, and the service was above and beyond. Greek ...

... for an appetizer; it was so delicious. It had a hint of sweetness, like a scallop. It was also drizzled with a balsamic syrup glaze, oh my! I had never had an octopus tentacle like that, but would definitely order that again. Matt got a super tender pork shank and I got the baked lamb; hands down the best lamb that either of us has ever eaten. It also had the tastiest fat that I have ever had, even better than duck fat. Matt claimed his pork shank ...
