The front desk clerk, Samuel, and the bellman Jacolvy, were very helpful, also Irene was great at check-out. Samuel was showing us all the rooms available in order that we felt comfortable.

Great Location, Staff and Courtyard BUT....
from A TripAdvisor User on 2004-04-18
I am the kind of person who books a hotel room after reading every book and review that I can find. This hotel has good reviews in many different places. It does have a great location - right in the middle of the french quarter. The staff are friendly and nice. The courtyard is a beautiful and is a great place to have breakfast. BUT .... the rooms in the main hotel are third rate. The rooms need to be renovated badly. Given the cost of the hotel, it was extremely dissappointing - it was 2 star accomodation for 4 star prices. The restaurant which is part of the hotel was very poor. It is rated highly by many but our dinner was terrible. That night everyone in the restaurant was complaining, not eating or eating so quickly that they were gone within the hour. Again - also extremely expensive. If you like to stay in first class hotels, do not book here. I didn't see the cottages - they may be better but I am skeptical. I wouldn't recommend and I think that Fodors and Frommers recommend the hotel because of its historic feeling and location but there are MANY better hotels which are not very far away and are cheaper that are a better bet.
The BIG EASY became the BIG DISAPPOINTMENT....
from A TripAdvisor User on 2003-02-04
The "Big Easy" became the "Big Disappointment" upon arrival....and then, the stay....at the Maison de Ville. Allow me to preface this by saying that I had always dreamed of a trip to the French Quarter, and a stay at this lovely establishment! First of all, our arrival was uneventful....not that I needed a marching band; however, SOME type of "gee, you people are special and this IS one of THE top hotel's in New Orleans" type of hello would have been sufficient. Nadda. We check in (adding here that the ONLY THING worth keeping around besides maybe an occasional ghost... is a lovely gentleman named Reisen who should RUN THE PLACE and not just get the bags....he has more personality by accident then any of the management)...in any event, we are unfamiliar with our new surroundings; but, not shown a darn thing...not the courtyard....not the lovely living area....nothing! So, cast to our room, we wash up and venture out onto Bourbon Street. Arriving back later, their "turn down" at night looks to me like nothing more than "rumpled bed sheets after sex" and the 2 chocolate's are not "special" as one would expect; however, I believe I recognized them from my grandmother's cheap box she took out only when people visited that she didn't want to stick around for dessert! I WISH I was kidding here, folks...and the bad only gets worse.....not only are we UP ALL NIGHT BECAUSE OUR TOILET IS LEAKING LIKE CRAZY; but, when I call the front desk the next morning to provide this information so that they might get it fixed before the next couple tosses and turns their way thru the midnight hours; but, NO ONE...not even a ghost.....makes an apology....a "wow, we didn't realize that and allow us to buy you a mimosa"....everybody now: NADDA. Oh, wait...it gets better......BREAKFAST! Their contiental, and I might add "complimentary" (it should be) breakfast. GOD BLESS REISEN.....remember him? The only thing worth keeping....at thi
REAKFAST IS SERVED! Reisen, still smiling and cordial, delivers on time, as expected. Yes, I'll break here to tell you that I might have eaten the best croissant ever made on the face of the planet (that includes Paris); but, the rest of that silver tray...the wilted rose.....the so-so coffee.....the limited choices of beverage....let's just say, it's the LEAST they could do..............OH...and I almost forgot.....my fiance and I have dinner reservations for the RED FISH GRILL instead of the downstairs Bistro, so we asked if we could please stop downstairs and just take a quick peek at the restaurant....we peeked, about 15 minutes before the place was open...and I don't know WHO the main blonde-ish hostess is; but, I thought she'd bite our heads off! NO KIDDING! WOW!!! So sorry we peeked inside...maybe she didn't notice my 7-carat diamond ring and our class....not that it matters; but, we weren't wearing "I'm with stupid" t-shirts and handing out the latest flyer's about where to buy the cheapest drinks on Bourbon Street......I won't go on and on any longer....if you don't get the point by now, there's nothing more that I can say, except that when my fiance and I walked into the new Ritz-Carlton and asked if they would mind if we took a "peek" at the new Maison Orleans, not only were we personally escorted from the Ritz to the Maison area; but, introduced.... HAPPILY and JOYFULLY shown around...shown a room....offered a beverage.......in my opinion, NO CONTEST! Haven't tried the Soniat House yet; but, I'll take my chances........don't waste your hard earned money at the Maison de Ville......and, it pains me to say it......make sure you are treated right when you pay to experience the difference! (Oh, and don't miss the Red Fish Grill......scrumptuous!)
Secret Garden!
from A TripAdvisor User on 2002-11-11
This charming boutique hotel offers guests their very own secreted cottages, courtyards, gardens and pool. It's just beyond a small, quaint door in the French Quarter. The concierge, staff, restaurant and service is impeccable. It was most welcoming to return to our oasis in the Quarter after long days and nights exploring the city. First rate!
We especially enjoyed the morning breakfast tray and the turndown goodies.
I want to go again....Now!
Small Luxury Hotel in New Orleans
from A TripAdvisor User on 2002-06-17
My wife & I stayed there two summers ago. It's on a small street just off Bourbon street in the French Quarter. The street is no where near as noisy as Bourbon. The room was decorated in antiques, including a four poster king bed. The marble bath was spacious. We had breakfast on a terrace overlooking the street. Service was excellent and invisible. There is an excellent restaurant attached. Very romantic. Seldom saw anyone--including other guests--except the front desk person.
Tennessee Williams lived and wrote in one of the rooms in the back surrounding the courtyard garden. The Audobon Cottages are located several blocks away from the main hotel and surround a pool in a lush garden setting.
I would love to go back. My wife would like to try other places just for comparision.
