Pont du Gard
On our way to Avignon we stopped to see the famous Pont du Gard. This bridge was part of the aquaduct built in the 1st century AD by the romans to bring water from Uzes to Nimes, about 30 kilometres. The bridge is all that remains of the aquaduct. It was an awesome sight stretching 275 metres and 48 metres high comprising of 3 levels of arches. Last day in Avignon/Arles
We simply love Avignon. It is beautiful. The people are friendly and everywhere you look there are fascinating things to see. We decided on our last day here to spend most of it in Arles for the love of Vincent Van Gogh. Arles, which is close to Avignon, was a place he loved and painted in. his famous street cafe scene was painted in Arles. Sadly, so too was his painting of the hospital/mental asylum.
