      ... we just hiked to the summit and turned back. We made our way back down the mountain and returned to camp. For dinner, we headed over to the Peaks of Otter Lodge and ate at the restaurant. By the time we returned, a couple folks who had eaten at camp had built a nice roaring campfire. The sun had set by now and it was quite chilly, so the fire’s warmth felt good.       I was reluctant to get going, feeling quite downhearted about the Blue Ridge Parkway, so we went for a long walk first to the far end of Sherando Lake to let Plan B settle in. The new plan is to continue in the same general direction, but on the valley floor, stopping at places I would have missed had I stayed on the Parkway, and using a crossover road to get to The Blue Ridge Music Centre which I was looking forward to seeing.

      ... but they weren't open until 10:00am; glad I didn't, as this is really a walking city.

    • Outdoor concerts & street performers everywhere.
    • Took in a movie at an old, restored movie theatre to end the night. Saw "Skeleton Twins" - loved this movie - well done, powerful, emotional.
    • 47 miles.
    • Will wake up in the morning (Sunday), hit my favorite cafe, and figure out where to next!!! ...
