... mobile workplaces. On reflection Roanoke had been a good choice to stay for the conclusion of our holiday. It was a small city/town, going about it's business, nestled in a valley between the mountains of Virginia and we felt at home here and took it easy. Tomorrow will be an early start as we set off to Washington Airport and the return of the hire car. We have booked a night in an airport hotel before our flight on Friday lunch time. ...

The Blue Ridge Parkway runs for 469 miles from Tennessee in the south up to Northern Virginia. It's highest point 6047 feet, soon after the highway commences. It is designed with numerous scenic overlooks and access all the way to the towns and cities along the way. The mountain range is full of tracks, waterfalls and camping grounds. We decided we would today take the car and drive part of the way and see what it had to offer near to us. It took ...

Obviously, 'Flan****ns' had an obvious calling, we entered and found ourselves the only customers. The beer still tasted nice ...

It's a nearly 6 hour drive to a town (or city as Americans like to call all towns) called Roanoke. We chose the place because it is located in a valley between the Smoky Mountains, the Shenandoah National Park and of course the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The journey was a lot more scenic than some as we climbed at times through the passes carved out of the rock to form ...

Got up early to go for a walk. The lobby had a very long line of Africans who have been attending a conference. Also police and Secret Service everywhere. Some in suits and some in uniform, some with bulletproof vests on. Concierge said that Obama was attending the conference to give the Keynote speech. Hung around but didn't see him enter. Very posh hotel. Had Rudy Valley play at it, Beatles stayed there and lots of Presidents and other famous people. Today we went out to ...
