Free upgrade!!!

... wow thanks. Then another lady behind the counter jumped in and said we have been upgraded to the best room in the place with our own private pool!!!! We were in shock. No one gave us any reason on why this occurred but we decided not to argue. The room/area is amazing!!!! We have our own pool right next to our room with a little bit of a garden to hang out in!!!!! Still not sure why it has happened but we have been ...

Back in Bali - an apology to my mother

... my back to a wall. Next thing there is this almighty tug on my ponytail and the little bugger wouldn’t let go. It gave me a hell of a fright as even though I was always checking to see where they were, I didn’t realize this one monkey has snuck up behind me. Apparently they like to take hair bands as well – as the discarded evidence lying around proved. One of the local trees had to swat the monkey with a stick to get it to let ...

Day 227-241 Legian, Bali, Indonesian

... her way to the airport. I assured her we would be meeting her off the plane in Darwin to then help her navigate customs.

About 30 minutes later I received her frantic call - she was unable to check in for her Jetstar flight, she had all his itinerary and flight documentation. The Jetstar people sent her to Garuda but she knew she was flying Jetstar there and Garuda home. Greg calmly took over the call and told her to ring her travel agent and get straight back into the ...

Legian Bali

Hey Everyone! Hope your all well! Im awesome- its been quite the few days! So after a 24 hour travel time flying to Tokyo and then over to Thailand I arrived at 1 in the morning in Bangkok. I stayed at our family friends house who lives in downtown Bangkok at Soi 8. For any of you who haven't been to Thailand driving here is insane. The highway was 2 lanes...technically...but a third was created for all the insane people( including my driver) to drive down the middle of the 2 lanes ...

Exploring My New Home Town

... I'm used to, or that I even like to do actually. After taking a relaxing morning and having breakfast together, a few of the girls finally left and a few of us others went to downtown Ubud to explore and look through the shops. I desperately wanted to buy something considering how cheap things were, but I didn't want to rush into any purchases, so I spent my day just getting a feeling of what was for sale here. Well... I did buy one thing. I bought a necklace that ...

A Man and His Motorbike

... cruising speeds far beyond what I was comfortable with. At one point I was driving past the airport when a descending Thai Airways jet flew right above the road, blew several pounds of sand into my face, and sharply knocked me sideways. There seem to be no rules of the road here other than "it's your responsibility to avoid hitting me." What that means is that people speed the wrong way down one way streets, drift haphazardly in and out of lanes, make ...

Kuta

... after you caught your first waves on a surf board. And for dinner a superb supper for 2$ and a large beer for 1$, any more...........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......... ...you want to see Australians, Kuta is well packed and if you want a couple of days in a wild party to the occidental style. That is the place with as many bars, disco, pubs, hotels and shops as you can as for.

... rest of the world doesn't like us. They didn't listen when our guide gave us info, wore their iPods on the ride and whinned about the local culture not being Christian, just annoying! Jason and I did as we do and made fun of them in private and shared several laughs with the girls. Gee Jason and I can be amusing at other's expense. Probably the best part of the day was as we rode through different villages ...

Is This for Real?

... passageway on Monkey Forest Road. On our way back to our spacious bungalow, we stopped at a bar where one of the locals was doing an excellent job of serenading tourists with U2, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones tunes. Tim had a Bintang (the local beer) and I tried, but couldn't finish, a glass of Arak (the local wine that tastes more like rubbing alcohol than anything wine-like) before retiring to our comfy bed. What an absolutely amazing couple of days.

Hiking to Goa Gajah

January 3 - After a day of rest and figuring out what we wanted to see, we had a plan and started to execute this morning. We had read in the Lonely Planet guide that we could walk to Goa Gajah and the Elephant Cave from downtown Ubud, so we went to the tourist office to get a map and they confirmed that, yes, there was a way to do it, so we headed off, map in hand, excited about the day ahead. It was hot and humid and the sky was sometimes overcast, sometimes sunny. Hard to tell ...
