... could also be that the temperature hovered around 60 degrees. Navigational errors are also easy to make in heavy rain when the road signs are hard to read. My biggest fear is localized flash flooding, especially across the highway. I better hope the roadway designers did their job when it comes to drainage.

... a large fort protecting the approaches to Vicksburg. The union troops tried to take this fort but failed on multiple attempts. They even tried to dig a trench to the wall of the fort and detonated gunpowder there. That blew a hole in the first wall, but a second wall held firm.
