We rolled into Memphis yesterday afternoon and we've been having a fun during our stay here. We started it off properly with a visit to a fried chicken place called Gus's World Famous Hot & Spice Chicken. It lived up to the name with some delicious food. We also ran into someone from LA there which was fun. He beat us by noting that he had done the cross-country trip three times, however.

... hours in the museum, we headed out into the sunshine
and decided to walk up to Sun Studios on the other side of town. The walk took
about 45 minutes and we ended up wandering through what looked like an abandoned
industrial estate, although google maps had assured us we were going the right
way. We have since come to the conclusion that all of Memphis looks dodgy and
rough, even when it's not, and it's lovely....that just what Memphis looks ...
... to go upstairs. The
furniture is as it was all those years ago, very 70’s so lots of green shag
pile carpets ha ha. It was quite
interesting I suppose but have to say I would rather have gone into Abraham
Lincolns home! Anyway you move around
the house and eventually out in the back yard, there is another building full
of his records and awards gold, silver, and then another building full of
grammi’s and stuff like that. Then ...
Walking back from Sun Studios, we came across the Wonder Bread and Hostess factory. Directly across from the factory was a wanting grocery store that seemed to sell only Wonder Bread and Hostess cakes.
Seeing the variety of Wonder Bread for sale called to mind Ford offering any color car you wanted, as long as it was black.
... and had a HUGE bbq meal at Marlowe's with a lovely couple from Alabama (called Windy and Arwen). Today we're doing the graceland tour after a breakfast that I can only describe as...unusual.
Two days here is not enough time to see everything (so I guess we'll just have to come back), but the thing that stands out to me the most is ...
