I boarded with what appeared to be an American tour group. Some of them went straight to the restaurant, some straight to the rooms, others to the top deck. I'm smarter. We have prepaid for dinner on board but from all the reviews I've read we are not expecting too much in the way of cuisine. In fact we are not expecting too much in the way of anything on this ferry trip. My travel agent Craig tried to talk me out of booking the car ferry but we didn't really have too many options apart from retracing our route in the car back to Rome ...

    Pompei and Overnight Ferry

... left to drive to Bari to catch our ferry. While it was a pretty large ferry I was still pretty unsure how I would cope all night on a boat. I decided to have dinner really early in the hope that my stomach would settle. A couple of us got chatting to some people who had done a Contiki tour when it first started and it was interesting to hear about their experiences. Our seats were very similar to those in an airplane and I was pretty confident I would not be getting any sleep. ...
