... I was. long story short-it was amazing-one of the most beautiful views ever!! ... is pretty clean and spacious so getting around was fine once we'd worked out where to go. We did make the mistake of heading into the CBD on a Sunday morning where the only thing open was the extremely impressive cathedral and McDonald's. Decent trip really. Even taking that into account it seemed quite dirty and smelled pretty bad (think human, think liquid) so for anyone going to the World Cup I wouldn't recommend that area.

... watched the sun set over the mountains, it was beautiful. Rio in general we were told was not that safe, especially during the carnival season but in our area it was one of the better areas to stay in and there was less crime and violence. The beaches were unreal though, soft sand like I've never felt before. The sea was a little cold however, but could be tolerated due to the low 30's predicted over the next few days! ...
