... in Turkey! There is lots of horn honking – but sometimes they were honking at us because we were visitors, as in “Welcome to Turkey” kind of honk. But they are like the Russians in that they have to be in front of you and have a total disregard for basic principles of driving safely! An ancient stone building housed the Silk Market and next door was the Bedesten, the covered market that had streets of shoe shops (heaven on earth, you'd think, but very gaudy shoes!), jewellery and just about everything else that is marketable. We had a standing joke about my finding a Perfect Handle tack puller for him at tag sales throughout the years -- Perfect Handle was the manufacuring company -- and while I always looked for him, I never found the elusive tool (and I'm not sure he ever did, either, other than at an antique tool show, which didn't count. ... and people would believe me. Annoying to be placed at the bottom of the climb, but whatever, just have to show them that I can do my job well.

Also, everyone here thinks I am German. Ha! Almost every time I go into a store, the person behind the counter tells me goodbye with "Auf wiedersehen!" I suppose I do look the part. I laugh, or try to come back with a broken "No, I'm American!" But they remain unconvinced. Time to get on that Turkish. ...
