We've made it to LA - Hollywood to be exact.

The 14.5 hour flight was llllloooonnnnnnnngggggggggggggg. But the girls did a great job, and we made it as a family ... (just).
A1 hour trip from the airport to the Magic Castle was enough time to get the life story of Gary Wagner our shuttle driver. He was hilarious! And didn't have a "hit …

After a broken sleep - damn jet lag - we got up around 8:30am and headed out for breakfast at the hotel. Cereal and toast / pastries and fruit.
We quickly got ready for our day out, and headed down to the metro (subway) and off to Universal Studios. It was only 1 stop away - but on the other side of the mountain!

Universal Studios is a …

DAY 43 SATURDAY 9 JULY
The drive from Morro Bay to Hollywood took us along Highway 101, inland and along the coast. We stopped in at Solvang, a Danish town; for South Australian people - Hahndorf on steroids. Didn't make any more stops and drove past Santa Barbara as we were keen to get into Hollywood. However, we did go down to Venice Beach. …

Tears and Magic Castles

A travel blog entry by skierdude

We had to be up early this morning to finish our packing. We chatted to Lesley for a while and then made our tearful goodbyes and headed off to Portland Airport to catch our flight to Atlanta and then on to LAX. When we looked out of the window of the plane and saw lots of coastline we began to think we might be on the wrong plane but we weren't …

Hollywood Stars & Carousels

Thanks to Nick I had a most delicious gluten-free breakfast at the hotel this morning - granola with gluten-free oats - a real treat! Then we went for a walk around Hollywood. We did the Hollywood Star Walk of course and I took some photos of the stars of the most important people like Winnie the Pooh and Big Bird. I did like the irony of thousands …

Got a really warm welcome from Nick and lots of helpful advice re places to visit and things to see. He had also arranged great gluten-free breakfasts for me which I really appreciated. The girls on reception were also very friendly and helpful. The place is really fun and in a great location. Would be happy to stay again.

Great stay at a Great Price

    from Dex1964

My wife, nephew, and I took a trip to Los Angeles December 11-18.

Stayed at the Magic Castle because of the reviews I read here. I must say we were not disappointed. We stayed in the Hollywood Hills and the view of LA was outstanding. Our room was clean and attractive. The front desk staff were very helpful and courteous. Couldn't have asked for a better/ safer place to stay. Very close to all the Hollywood attractions. If we ever take another vacation to Los Angeles the Magic Castle will definately be our home away from home!

    Great View of the City

    from anonymous

My husband and I stayed here for only 2 days right after Christmas. We got a room at the hilltop. You have to go through a locked gate to get to your hotel room and parking area. This made us feel totally safe. On the outside the buildings may not look to appealing. But, once you are inside you will instantly feel at home. The room is set with a full kitchen, jacuzzi tub, and huge windows. From our room we could see half of the city. It was superb. We were amazed with the great room for the affordable price. This hotel is also walking distance from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And it is easy to get to Melrose, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and Rodeo by car from this hotel. Also, you get 10% discount off of your dinner at the nearby Japanese restaurant Yamashiro. We will definately stay at this hotel again. It is LA's hidden treasure.P.S. The hilltop hotel is called "Hollywood Hills Hotel" which is part of the Magic Castle Hotel. Don't get the name mixed up with another hotel by the same name which is part of Best Western.

    Great Value is Magic

Dec 7, 2003 - this hotel is perfect for families on vacation. Our family ended our 7 night visit to Disneyland, Knott's and Universal Studio with 2 nights at this hotel located on Franklin (there are 2 complexes). My adult children and spouses including one 5-yr old grandson and myself (total of 6) shared a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite with sofa bed and a well furnished full kitchen.

This hotel's service, atmosphere and value ensured we will return whenever possible. Located one block off Hollywood Blvd and a short 3-5 minute walk to the Highland/Hollywood shopping mall. Universal Studios 5-7 minute drive. The outdoor swimming pool was exceptionally clean and very well heated (comfortable for an after dinner swim). The king beds were the best, 3 tv's with lots of channel choices. Quiet and safe.

Security cameras, secured parking (FREE) and access (even lobby locked to public, required hotel key access after nightfall.

Magic Castle suites are nice and big!

    from anonymous

I stayed here with my 3 small children and my teenage cousin in June - it was great. It was the last 2 nights of our week long trip to Southern Cal. , after staying in just regular hotel rooms for the strart of the trip it was such a luxury to have that spacious suite. It was bigger than my old 1 BR apt! - Actually, the hotel looks like it used to be an apt building (think Melrose Place). I thought the price (100 + tax) was great for the size and location - just an easy walk down to the Chinese Theatre and Walk of Fame. The suite was very clean and the kitchen was fully equipped - it even had hot chocolate and tea bags. The staff was very nice and friendly. I just wish we had chosen to stay there for the entire trip - I will definately go back. Also, I like that it had 2 Tvs- so the kids could watch their shows in the bedroom.

    A Great find!

    from anonymous

My family and I recently stayed at the Magic Castle. The folks there go out of their way to be sure you enjoy your stay in this small hotel.

Our room was neat, clean, and very spacious. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in at a hotel. Housekeeping made sure we had everything we needed and more. The location is within walking distance of Grauman's Chinese, the Kodak Theater, and the Hollywood walk of fame. In my many years of traveling the globe, very few hotel stays compared to the great experience of the Magic Castle.

    Very good

    from anonymous

We stayed there 6 nights and our stay was very good... the staff was very friendly... the room was comfortable (with a big kitchen) and very clean. Very close (only 2 blocks) from hollywood boulevard. The magic castle is one of the most beautiful castle i've ever seen !...

    Great Location!!

    from anonymous

This is a wonderful place to stay.. quiet and secure. The brochure is a little deceiving though. It shows the remodeled rooms on the hilltop, and with a family of 5, we could not be accomodated there, without multiple room charges. The main hotel is partially redone and after not being happy with the first room we were given, the people at the front desk made arrangements for us to move to another room the next morning when it became available. We were happily surprised with a two bedroom suite (queen beds), full size equipped kitchen, dining room, living room w/pull-out queen sofabed, three TV's, balcony and full bath. The front desk service was superb and very helpful with directions to local sites. One block from Mann's Chinese Theatre, and we felt very safe walking back to the hotel after dark.

    Hollywood's Best

    from anonymous

I stayed here on Spring Break with my friends. I shopped around for months reading different reviews and decided on the Magic Castle.

The best decision we could have made! Price was great--89.00 for two Queens and full kitchen. Grocery is close by. Underground parking is a little tight, but it is free and secured.

Staff was great. Rooms were clean and nicely decorated. View from hilltop was beautiful.

The hotel is close to CBS Television City and only a block away from Chinese Theater and other attractions.

For a great drive, take Sunset Blvd from Hollywood straight to the ocean. You won't be disapointed.

    Will stay here again!

    Nice place

    from vraff

Nice place to stay. Recently remodeled, reasonably priced even for room with 2 queen beds and complete kitchen. Free gated parking but the parking is tight. Had to back out of the garage from one spot because there was not enough room to turn around. The staff was nice when we needed them. One block walk away from Hollywood Boulevard, Hollywood & Highland shopping complex, Metro Line (you can take to Universal Studios for less than $3 roundtrip - no traffic and save at least $5 on parking), Kodak Theater, Graumann's Chinese Theater, etc.

    It's the find of 2003

    from JCA Hillman

The rates are super great, the experience I had was more than anyone could expect. The rooms were manificent the veiw was out of this world. When you go ask for a room on the "HILLTOP",4th or 5th floor, there is also a swimming pool on top . This MAGIC CASTLE hotel is super quiet and secure, If you simply wanted to get away and write, read or relax this is the place to go. Trust me,I shop around alot and always read reviews, the is the first one I have ever written.
