... Des Papes, a huge palace built for the Archbishop in 1377. Looked over to the remains of a bridge that was built between 1177 and 1186. Originally having 22 arches, but today only four remain due to constant weather erosion.

This is an interesting little tour and worth doing if you have the time, and definitely if you're a fan of van Gogh.

... it was the weekend and very soon after New Year's Day.

I missed out on seeing the Gardens and the Castle as I arrived late and they'd already done it.

From here we also did a half-day trip to Arles - see next entry.
There are other smaller villages around to do day trips to/from, such as Avignon.
Marseilles and Montpelier are also 2-3 hours away by train.
